Re: Joe Bonamassa Signature Wah (has anybody heard anything?)

Nice Video! Thanks.

Re: Joe Bonamassa Signature Wah (has anybody heard anything?)

Mine should be here tomorrow, wed at the latest. Surprised by the lack of info on this wah here... 9 pages, but only a few people seem to have bought them? I thought this would be THE PLACE for all things on the Bonamassa Sig pedals!

FWIW, I like wahs that DON'T quack. I like red fasel. Thick & throaty. Actually, I LOVE the red fasel side of the CAE (for those of you who might be familiar), and am hoping this JB Wah will get me very close to that.

I got mine in. Love it so far. Will be selling my Morley PDW and Vox reissue.

Re: Joe Bonamassa Signature Wah (has anybody heard anything?)

Well I'm also late to the party my old trusty dunlop Wah finally gave way a few weeks back, good news my jb Wah arrives tomorrow. For people in the UK the Wah cost me £113 from the jb store and £35 in import duties. The wahs retail in UK for around £179 so its a bit of a saving if you don't mind waiting smile oh and you get a t shirt!

Regards
John

Re: Joe Bonamassa Signature Wah (has anybody heard anything?)

Regarding the TB/Buffered switch, my manual didn't specify... but the ONLINE manual does:
http://www.jimdunlop.com/files/manuals/JB95_V2.pdf

[Swith to the]LEFT="Hardwired TB in 'OFF' position"... meaning buffered.

So, it looks like LEFT = Buffered, RIGHT = TB

I'll tell you this- in my setup (which is a medium-sized board, also has a dedicated buffer), the Buffered position is closer to the tone straight into the amp. In my setup, the TB position seems to have a very very very very slight deadening of the high end (I describe it as "less alive"... but honestly, I wouldn't even be able to tell after a beer. smile We're talking like 1% difference. In my case, it looks like my board benefits from the extra buffering of the JB wah to help keep my signal as close to unmolested as possible.

NOW... I do like it, but I know already I won't be able to rest until I order a CAE to compare it to... I used to love the red fasel on the CAE, but I remember it not liking fuzzes, no matter the placement. I have the JB after all my dirt, but before OR after, it seems to get along better with my fuzzes than the CAE did. But I'm going to order a CAE to be 100% sure, pick one, and be done with the whole damn thing.

If I keep the JB, I'll be looking for a way to put an LED on the side...  not sure how that would work, since it has the TB/Buffered switch, and the DPDT switch...

Re: Joe Bonamassa Signature Wah (has anybody heard anything?)

Overall very nice, doesn't seem to have the horrible spikey top end my old Wah had. One thing though I keep turning it off by accident sad maybe I'm just heavy footed?

Re: Joe Bonamassa Signature Wah (has anybody heard anything?)

My CAE will arrive today...the shootout begins!

Re: Joe Bonamassa Signature Wah (has anybody heard anything?)

For me, CAE wins.

Keep in mind while reading this comparison, I love the RED side of the CAE... and never use the yellow side. I hate quack.

Tested with a tele, as well as a PRS double-hum.

The red side of the CAE is thicker than the JB, even darker/less quack than the JB. And that's w/o even adjusting the q with the internal trim pot.  The CAE is also quieter... the JB wah has some hiss, the CAE very little to none.   The JB has a... "metallic" or maybe "synth" quality in the wah tone; it MUST be that Halo inductor. I personally don't like it. Much prefer the way the CAE sound like my guitar tone, only wah-ed.  Doesn't add the "edge"...or whatever that is... the JB adds.

In terms of "throatiest" to "most quack":

CAE Red
JB
CAE Yellow

Also, the CAE pedal has more travel than the JB; I find it more expressive/easier and more gradual of a wah, which I like. The JB, with it's shorter travel, is harder to find & hold the "sweet spot".

As far as the fuzz thing, I prefer my wah after all my dirt, so the fuzz buffer in the JB didn't matter to me, but I did try it in front of the fuzz, and it worked great.

Too damned bad too... because that COPPER JB looks AWESOME.  I wonder if I could simply buy a Red fasel & drop it in the JB?
