Four pieces of 6mm plexi with smoothed corners from Trent Plastics UK
Spare A5 Clearsonic hinge - cut into three

Lots of effin and jeffin...and a half severed finger later...aaaand...

I think I'll buy one next time, but it was a good experiment and totally transforms the sound.
The best thing you can buy for an amp. Easy.
Folds neatly into one panel four sheets thick.
Please ignore the smudges...I've only just made it and haven't had the chance to clean the washing up liquid off it.

Looks good! I need to build one soon as well. I think I'll do a three panel one.
What made you choose a four panel over a three panel?
How long did it take you to make it?

I made one identical with the same plexi and plastic hinges..Yes, pain in the you know what to get the plexi in those hinges. Next time I'll just buy one. The cost of doing it myself wasn't much less anyways. Looks nice, looks pro, great job on it! -S

Four panel I thought was a bit more versatile and I wanted that (potential) V-shape in the middle to see how it would sound. Still folds up nicely. All bits were next day delivery and it took me around twenty minutes to put together with the old man....really needs two people to be fair.

Yes, I think I only saved £20 or £30. But I do feel mine is as durable...and looks almost identical - I had the plexi sheets corners rounded and smoothed...it was the bloody hack-sawed hinge that cut me.

I used a mitre box to cut the corners of the plexi and for cutting the hinge to length. I came out unscathed!

You may ask yourself that when playing at home, but rehearsals or especially live on stage with a band...you wouldn't believe how good it is. Joe would be unlistenable for the first ten rows...
I think every single guitar player should use them live - it would make their sounds perfect - then you could really concentrate on if that particular players 'tone' was good. Sort the gods from the men...

what if I have one and the other guitar player doesn't? I dont want to get lost in the mix, or "talk him into" having to carry around two heavy sheets of plastic hmm

Been playing regularly in a blues/funk style band 3 nights a month and have been getting plenty of use out of mine.

NPB: I know what you mean, can be tough to hear yourself in the stage mix since it muffles your stage tone, but if you're not micing up your amp(s), then its more of a problem for the audience to hear. I don't think of it as a tone enhancement, though it can alter it, its more for avoiding close encounters with high beams of noise for those sitting close as well as keeping some of the stage volume down. If you're not using a mic on your amp, I would forgo the plexi shield. I always walk out to the end of the room and theres a huge difference in sound from there, if I wasn't micing, my guitar would be non existent to those sitting further away. -S

question: Dave, would you still build an M shape (or W) if you only had a single speaker cab?  I am considering building meself one and I think with a 1x15 a V shape one would do the trick... what say you?

Er...no. To be honest, maybe even a three panel (which some people have here) will suit a 2x12...I just went and added a little extra.
