Topic: The Voice

I'm not a big fan of singing reality shows, but found out this morning that one of my favorite artists is competing on The Voice.  To me, Tony Lucca embodies all that is still good about making music, but like so, so many, he's just another unknown playing the small clubs.  On national TV he'll get a shot at the bigtime and I hope he grabs that brass ring.
Curiously I forgot he was a MMC member along with Justin, Britney, Christina and Ryan Gossling.

Kenny - Living where you do you're to be excused.  I personally don't watch the show, but will watch to see how Tony does.  He's no Paul Rodgers by any stretch, but his album Come Around, released in 2008, was my favorite for '09.  A lot of his stuff's a bit poppy....on Come Around though it's more bluesy and rock sounding.  Very highly recommended for those of you trying to climb out of 70's Classic Rock and into something from this century along the same vein.  Here's some vids promoting the album that are pretty interesting.

This song off the album is my favorite and one I sing along to if I'm alone in the car.  The other guitarist, Keaton Simons is pretty damn good in his own right and worth checking out too.

LOL, So True smile

He is the "True Voice"

It is an American show that debuted last year.  It has a panel of 4 celebrity musical judges who pick out their singers on their team. And then the singers compete with each other for the top prize.

I was hoping that "The Voice"  Mr. Paul Rodgers would make an appearance on the show last year,
but I don't even know if the Execs of the show even know who he is.  I think it's only appropriate that he be showcased on the show named after him wink

I watch the show and really love it.  Always will be looking for Paul to be a guest star.

I watch the show and love it.  I saw him and he got all 4 judges, Adam is too funny, to turn around.
Congrats to your guy, I will be watching.

I like the fact that they tell you right from the start that most of these people are already in the music business.  And just the concept of the show where you have the mystery of which judge or judges will turn around.  Then when you are picked for that particular judges team, you get the mentoring of that particular judge. That part is really good for these contestants and they get to show what they learn in their performances. I find a number of good singers from these shows that I never would have heard of.

Here is the winner from last years show, Javier Colon. My favorite performance from him.  A song that he wrote before the show.  A true artist is he.

Re: The Voice

Need to get caught up on this show this weekend.  I love the chemistry and humor of the judges and Christina kind of being the only girl with these guys.

This is the one I am going with so far.  he's got me hooked.  Got these 2 songs from him already.
But it's a competition so you have to bring it each week.  But boy did he ever have one of the best performances ever on the show with this one. I'm like Cee-Lo, first note and the button is pushed.
Already have these 2 songs by him now.  And liked how Christina said she was going to work hard for HIM.  Competition is on!

I hope you get to tune in Curby.  It's a competition so you don't know who really will win, but I think it is a fun show and i discover new singers on there.  I'm sure your friend, Tony Lucca has made new fans, and he has an opportunity to make many more smile

One of the things that can come from a show like this is you don't have to win to make an impact.  You just need the exposure to connect with someone.

Almost caught up with this show.  I love it the first season, but I think I love it even more this season.  The judges seem to have a lot good chemistry with each other.  They make the show fun.  Cee-lo is so funny he is even having his Cat, Purrrr-fect the Cat twitter about his pick.  Cat says, "Welcome Erin to the Team, but still know I am the prettiest one on Team Cee-Lo." What a beautiful Persian he has.  I wonder if it is really his or just a prop on the show.

They got some good singers picked out and more to come.  It's interesting to see how some of the coaches are going for more the uniqueness of a voice.  What I like is that you see some of these singers are raw and just need a good coach to develop what they have. I enjoy the teaching aspect of this show more than American Idol.

And it just makes me wonder how I would love to see Paul Rodgers as a coach.
I really would like to see the singers that he would pick.  Who would resonate with him and why.  And also what his teaching aspects to his aspiring singers would be vocally.  I know this isn't his thing, but I kind of like to see him develop some young singers.  Just a dream.

This is sooooooo good, but yet soooooooo bad in that 1 had to go.

So good in that these 2 brought out the best in each other.  I mean they brought not just the "A" game, but the whole alphabet and 123s.

Jesse's my man on the show, but I am keeping this duet forever.  I am with others that say give this a Grammy nomination.  This was a battle of epic proportions, they each was throwing a jab here and there vocally.  Knowing they had to knock the competition out. Yet they complimented each other so well with the vocal arrangement and there talent extraordinaire.

Jesse knocked it out with his bu-bu-bu-baby at 1:47.  But Anthony tried to take it back holding that high note at the end.  But for me, Jesse has a fluidity in transitioning notes that only a few have where he doesn't even have to sing the big notes. His perfection is through the whole song like Paul Rodgers.

Both Paul Rodgers and Jesse Campbell are just like a Chocolate French Silk Pie. Heavenly Yummy big_smile

Too Cool Brack

That hopefully means I can jump into your pool after coming out of mine ha ha.

I am going to try and see your new show. I hope it is as successful there as it is here.

I see you have Tom Jones and Will I Am as judges.  Tom Jones is a heavyweight.  I can't wait to see who he chooses for his team and why.  Also this is like an insider's view into his vocal coaching. Love to hear what he has to say.  Also the judges sing on the show, so I will look forward to hearing him sing.

I know you are a drummer, so I don't know if you will like it like I do.  but i hope you have a chance to watch smile

Re: The Voice

We had the fun last year when the show had it's start in The Netherlands. The idea from this show is from Roel van Velzen, a Dutch singer songwriter. Before he had his breakthrough he played in The Crazy Piano's where I saw him first. The show was a great succes from the beginning, because the concept is different from the other talent scouts.

Cat,

Thanks for the vid - it was a goodun, but don't know why they'd pair off two heavyweights this early.  Jesse is clearly a talent, but has to rein it in some imho.  I caught Tony Lucca's 2nd round singing a U2 song and felt uncomfortable watching it.  Tony was way out of his comfort zone, but managed to go to the next round.

Here's another of what I consider heavyweights on Christina's team again.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9hGnuCOBWs

She's killing me with her pairings. I love these 2 and 1 got kicked off early again.
It's like the 2 singers she is pairing could instead be in the finals.  I have to say I preferred Geoff on this one than Sera, who Christina picked.  I couldn't find a flaw in Geoff's singing. He's a Powerhouse. Sera squeeked at 1:44 lol.
This was a great duet, and I am keeping this one too. More music Woo Hoo.

I have to say that I would be hard pressed to choose between Jesse and Geoff.
They just too good for me.

But for me Curby, this is what I like in these shows.  I get to discover new talent I would never have known.  So now, even though Geoff got voted off, I am going to get his music.

Congrats to your guy Tony.  Not every song fits someone. It can come down to song selection. Hopefully he will get a song that can showcase more of him smile
