Re: NCAA Basketball

Filled out my bracket at work.  Went mostly with the favorites.  My final 4 is Kentuckey, Vandy, Sparty, Kansas.  I picked the Wildcats to take it all.

What do you know, the Cal Bears are on the bubble with the daunting task of beating USF, a team that won 20 games in The Big East, to play in. Winning the Pac 12 Conf. didn't get Wash. in, but Colo. got a bid by winning the tourney over Ariz. last night. Cal's 24-9 record and having Mike Montgomery as their Head Coach was just enough to squeeze them in. I'll be keepin' my eye on The Galloping Gaels of St. Mary's as well. Don't know which Ohio St. team will show up from day to day lately, good luck Bucks.

Yeah I'm still bummed. First time in history (since expanding the field to 64 teams) that a regular season conference champion didn't make the tournament.

Washington was 10 games over 500 in conference (14-4), had the Pac 12 Coach of The Year (as voted by other coaches), had the Pac 12 Freshman of the Year, 2 players on the First-Team all conference team, and one player on Pac 12 All-Defensive team. Granted, their RPI wasn't that great.

It's as if the regular season doesn't count for much any more.

There's no arguing that the Pac 12 was down this year though. Hopefully Cal and Colorado will represent the conference well :-)

Re: NCAA Basketball

My sympathy Stu. It seems that RPI is all they look at now. You have to go on the road and beat good teams to get noticed. Now we have a flap with our star and a finger. This will have bad results if Fisher is forced to bench him.

Re: NCAA Basketball

brackets also filled, I have KY, Mizzou, Fla State, and NC in the final four with NC winning it all. All the "experts" think OSU will make a run to the final four, but Fla State is hot hot right now.
Rick, I am taking off Friday so I get to watch NC State/SDSU start that leads into Bama's game. Vegas has made NC State a 1 1/2 point favorite, as well as Alabama at minus 1 1/2. I don't get that one, Creighton is by far the better team. On this one site I frequent the bettors are loading up pretty good on NCST and Creighton.
It's going to be a hoot as usual, looking forward to IND/KY rematch.

I'm in. I've got Ky, Duke, FSU and Syracuse in the four with Syracuse and Ky going to Ky.
Lady Aztecs open against LSU. I should get a sidebet going with Rockfarmer. I need to buy him a beer before he heads off to the land of stetsons and mesquite.
We're hoping for a rested team and good game first round, Wolfpack and Aztecs have never played. Another sweet 16 is pretty much out of sight for the SDSU team but we can dream.
Good luck all.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Well it looks like I may get my wish to play Kentucky again....maybe.  All the East coast knowitalls at ESPN that work for the Big East and ACC are making New Mexico St. the sexy upset pick over my Hoosiers.  If Indiana manages to clear that hurdle then they'll face sexy pick number 2 in Wichita St.
UK as the number one overall seed have a real threat facing UConn in the second round.  The problem with the Huskies is they match up athletically and Calhoun is back on the bench for probably the last time.
Has anybody seen the Aggies play this season and are they legitimate?

Aggies are good, not great. What do they know about NMS? They never keep track of teams west of the Mississippi!
Dang. One of my top picks just canned their star center for bad grades. Sigh... Sorry Rocket.

Haven't watched one second of the Lady Tigers this year, but I'll wager a cold frosty mug on it anyway.  Hell, we need to get together before I head to Big D anyway.

LSU men are in the NIT and play tonight against Oregon.  Game is on ESPN from what I hear.  I'll watch.

You're on! Hope they do better than the other guys. The Ducks were tough tonight.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Embarrassing loss last night.  The Ducks played very well and deserved that win. Our AD is the former Duke AD.  There's alot of us that are hopeful that he cans Trent Johnson and hires a decent coach and places a higher priority on the BB team.

Re: NCAA Basketball

That was a pretty pitiful showing for LSU. Hey, pick a gig up at the Coach House and we'll get together at the neutral ground midpoint. Helen and I want to give you and Susan a last hurrah sendoff Mike.

CSU has been very tough at home. All of the MWC teams have been tough at home. The Rebels final conference game will be at CSU so it will be a great game to watch. I hope that the MWC will now have earned a 4th team in the tournament. Look for some major upsets by the MWC teams this year. It’s been awhile, we could see a Cinderella team win the tournament.

I'M about to head over to the T&M to watch the Rebels and lose my voice. A much need home win will do us good. Go REEEBELS!

CSU is up at the half against Murray St. They could be that Cinderella team of the tournament. The MWC will send some teams packing. Let the games begin.

Wow! What a miserable secend half for CSU. That was nothing like I expected. I’M sure that we will see them back again next year.

Re: NCAA Basketball

I was following online and got the gist of it Bill. CSU didn't adapt in the 2nd half and were too far behind to make a difference. Go you Rebels!

Re: NCAA Basketball

CSU very sloppy handling the basketball.  Took themselves out early in the 2nd half.

Re: NCAA Basketball

I'm having to "watch" online as well. My picks are nearly identical to Obama's, including the final two and NC as champion.
Go UNC Asheville, could we have a 16 beating a #1 ? Alas, Montana was not such a sexy pick as some tried to convince me. and now look at BYU trying to stage another comeback, it could happen.

Re: NCAA Basketball

I am listening online via NCAA.com, something like 19 turnovers and 2 points in the first eight minutes if the 2nd half. It was bad just listening.

Time for Lobo’s, let’s hope that they can do much better.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Slow day so a bit of hookey and channel surfing. Lobos looking like they'll get there but Ware is starting to get it together for LB. 'Cuse got a scare but hung tough. Vandy looking good so far.
Rick
Whoops, Long Beach has come roaring back and it is a battle with 5 to go. Ok, Lobos took care of business. Harvard is fighting but Vandy looks to hang in. I love this time of year!
