Re: Jimmy Page

Thanks again everybody! I wanted to let you all know I've posted a few more posts, the first about Jimmy's session guitar work on the Tom Jones "It's Not Unusual". The second was about Jimmy's first Fender Stratocaster and Gretsch Chet Atkins Country Gentleman. The third was about Jimmy Page's work in producing John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton which not many people know about, so check it out! (I even give Joe a nod it that one wink

Really enjoy the history of your blog. I have a question for you?  I was wondering if he also did session work on "What's New Pussycat" Whoa Whoa Whoooooaaa Whoa.

I thought I heard he did on that as well, but is that something you know?

It's my favorite Tom Jones song for an obvious reason
I always think he is singing that one to me wink

I'm sorry to say he didn't. That was Big Jim Sullivan

Re: Jimmy Page

Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you know I've posted a whole bunch of cool new stuff on http://findingzoso.blogspot.com/, including "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You", how Jimmy Page and Robert Plant met, and an overview of Jimmy's Sola Sound Professional MK II Tone Bender.

I apologize I hadn't updated it for a few days, I was out on Neah Bay which is the Northwestern most tip of the Continental United States so I was a bit out of the loop. I'm back now though, so expect regular updates here on in!

Re: Jimmy Page

Hi Zoso, just read your installment on the Fillmore East. Having grown up in the SF Bay Area I attended many BGP shows @ different venues. Just wanted to let you know though that the original Fillmore and the Fillmore West were two different venues. The Fillmore was and still is on Geary Blvd. and the Fillmore West was on the corner of Market and Van Ness Sts. the present day home to SF Honda. The other BGP venue in those days was Winterland, which held a larger capacity, where I saw Zep the day II was released. Don't know if Zep partied it up too much that night, but it was a lackluster performance.

Thanks J Dawg for the correction. I grew up only an hour and a half from the Fillmore in SF and have been there numerous times, thus I must admit I'm a bit red-faced over this one. Haha.

Don't sweat it, there are a whole lotta people that think the Fillmore was a one and only. Have you been to the current day Fillmore? It's a shrine to the SF music scene. Contact me if you get around to the infamous Day On The Green shows where Bill Graham had Bonham and their road mgr. thrown in jail. BTW, where did you grow up and which Fillmore did you go to? The one on Geary Blvd. & Fillmore St. or Market & Van Ness?

I've posted a whole slew of new stuff on the blog, so give it a look see. If you have any ideas or anything you'd like to see me cover or investigate, please feel free to share smile

1) Did Page's studio part on The Who's, I Can't Explain make it onto the final cut? There seems to be quite a debate as whether it was deleted or not and Pete Townshend isn't talkin'.

2) The band that never happened, with Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Nicky Hopkins, John Paul Jones, & Keith Moon. They met for one secretive recording session which produced one track, Beck's Bolero.

3) Jimmy's original name, The New Yardbirds he planned to use for his new band after the split of the Yardbirds, but instead following Keith Moon & John Entwhistles suggestion of Lead Zeppelin(refering to how a band did when they bombed).

Would love to see what you've got on these 3 topics Zoso. Really diggin' the Blog.

Re: Jimmy Page

Hey J Dawg,

I was at the Day On The Green the day before Plant found out about his son. I don't remember a lot from the day other than Rick Derringer opening followed by Judas Priest and then Zep. I do remember having a good time tho'. If I'm not mistaken, this was July '77.

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

July 23 & 24, '77, the same shows which resulted in the arrests after the Sat. show, but we're drifting off topic here. Let's leave it to Zoso to Blog up the details. BTW, there's a Day On The Green page on FB, check it out and friend it.

A SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM JIMMY PAGE

"On March 20th, the Spring Equinox 2012, the title music for Lucifer Rising and Other Sound Tracks will have its premiere and release.

The title music, along with other musical pieces recorded at my home studio in the early Seventies, have been revisited, remixed and released for the first time.

This is a musical diary of avant-garde compositions and experiments, one of which was to appear on the film 'Lucifer Rising'.

The collection has been exhumed and is now ready for public release. This will be available exclusively on the website.

There will be a standard release on heavyweight vinyl.

In addition there will be a special run of 418 numbered copies. The first 93 copies will be signed and numbered.

There are liner notes and commentary to each track. The tracks are:

Side One
1) Lucifer Rising - Main Track

Side Two
1) Incubus
2) Damask
3) Unharmonics
4) Damask - Ambient
5) Lucifer Rising - Percussive Return"

Re: Jimmy Page

Bad prices for what is essentially, an unfinished, drugged up mess of an album. How much for a signature?!
Kenneth Anger was furious at Page for this work.
I wonder if the story about him deciding to watch it backwards on projection (and hence no sound) to get the idea for the music was true.
I can imagine so.

Re: Jimmy Page

I'd be much happier if it was music made in this century.

It is definitely not. We know there is an albums worth of material out there...he has pretty much completed it. Why it is not being released any time soon is a complete mystery.
