Re: NCAA Basketball

I pull for all the teams promoted here, including Liz's big and bad Wildcats.  Good to see San Diego St. and UNLV getting national recognition too.  Same goes for Tres' Tide who'll be a handful for higher seeded teams.  My Hoosiers are a bit up and down, but maybe they can put together a run.  Not since their undefeated champions in '76 have they beaten three top five teams in the same season.  On a neutral court they'll be dangerous to a lot of teams.

Re: NCAA Basketball

It was a nail biter as our Aztecs blew an 18 point lead over the Horned Frogs from TCU in the second half. They came back to force ot and won. Jamaal Franklin came through big with a career high 35 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists as the bench stepped in to help.

edit: MWC co champs with UNM and 1 seed in the conference tournament in Las Vegas. Good luck there Bill. The latest RPI show the top four MWC teams all with ratings in the top 33 which could put them all in the big dance. UNLV sits atop the ratings for the league.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Mountain West Conference Championship Matchups.  It would be great to see four teams make it to the big dance.

#1 San Diego State (24-6)
#8 Boise State (13-16)

#4 Colorado State (19-10)
#5 TCU (17-13)

#2 New Mexico (24-6)
#7 Air Force (13-15)

#3 UNLV (25-7)
#6 Wyoming (20-10)

Is there a tougher league with only 8 teams? So sad this will be the last tounament for us with you guys Bill, it's been a fantastic rivalry and with a bit of luck I expect we will be playing for #1 next weekend. So glad to see UNLV and UNM on the opposite side of the bracket! In retrospect, it is highly unlikely that 4 can make it in, too many small conference teams are automatics and the west is still sneered at. Someone will be dissed.

Most likely they'll get three in the dance, but deserve four.  The MWC is a great conference - reminds me of the old Southwest Conference with the desired regional rivalries
I forgot New Mexico is coached by two Washington, Indiana boys - Steve Alford and Craig Neal.  Nearby Washington has also produced UNC's All American Tyler Zeller and his little brother Cody (Indiana University).

Have a great time Bill. To lead up to the tourney, our local writer opined they should drop the game and go home to rest the team since they are thin on the bench and one of our best has a sore knee. He reasoned the seeding should be a 6 regardless of the outcome. Coach said "We play to win!" big_smile I hope we are playing the Rebs for all the marbles this weekend. Best of luck.

Well...LSU beat Arkansas in the first round of the SEC tourny.  That just means that we earned the right to get the crap kicked out of us by Kentucy tomorrow.  I was pulling for Arky.

Oh, your guys can handle that team Mike. Our boys just darned near gave me a heart attack, but put down a trey at the buzzer ftw. Bill is getting some exciting bb today.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Wow! What a great day. The MWC games were outstanding. SDSU nailed it at the buzzer for a well deserved win. CU stomped TCU. The Lobo’s fans are incredible! What a huge turnout for New Mexico. The Rebels came out and shutdown the Cowboys in the first half and got the W. I scrambled home to buy our tickets for tomorrow. It will be another great! day of basketball.

I CANNOT believe it is March already, where did the season go? I'm ready, bring on the Madness. Really bummed my Cats are playing at 1:00 tomorrow sad Have the DVR set but just not the same as watching live. Will try to plan lunch around the 2nd half to catch a little of it then.

1996 we went undefeated in the SEC and lost to Mississippi State in the finals of the SEC tourney, went on to win the National Championship, could history repeat itself? MSU is tough, they nearly beat us a few weeks ago. 2003 undefeated in SEC and made it to the Elite 8. Who knows? We are an awesome team really fun to watch, Anthony Davis is just unbelievable, I do hope he gets the player of the year. I've lost track of how many blocks he has well over 100.

Anyone have any interest in a forum bracket challenge this year? Setting up the one through CBS was really easy. Would be happy to do it again smile

Definitely Kentucky is the best team this year.  There's a lot of luck involved winning a NC, but the talent in Lexington will keep them in games other would succumb to.  I've been hearing UK fans desperately want a rematch with my Hoosiers.  If that happens don't be surprised if Indiana beats them again.  I agree Anthony Davis should be player of the year and will add Coach Tom Crean coach of the year.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Rick, your Aztecs will be in for a tough fight. The Lobo fans are out in force, very loud and proud of their team. I have got to give them credit for traveling in such huge numbers supporting their team over 9000 strong in attendance. Sadly the Rebel fans were outnumbered by Lobo fans tonight and lost in our house. Now we just sit and wait until Sunday to see where we will go for the big dance.

Enjoy the game.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Wow, that was a war Bill. I thought your team would pull it out but when your big man fouled out and you had to start fouling, they put them in every time. Those Lobo fans made it look like the pit! We split this season so we'll see what happens tomorrow. Aztecs handled Colorado State easily and Jamaal looked like the player of the year he is. Good luck and here's hoping we both get good seedings.

edit: A big shout out to our Lady Aztecs who are also playing the Lobos for the league championship today. They're hoping for the auto include in the distaff March madness as well.  smile
edit2. Congrats to the Lady Aztecs, MWC Tourney Champions! After a slow start, they smoked UNM 57-43. On to the March Ladies Madness.

All credit to UNM. Aztecs came out flat and didn't improve. 3 hard games in 3 days were too much with no bench. Off to March Madness.

Not surprised Kentucky lost - it'll only make them more focused for the real McCoy.  Won't be surprised if nobody gets within 10 points.
Aztecs got a bit unlucky playing NC State.  Wolfpack have some athletes.

Re: NCAA Basketball

What do you know, the Cal Bears are on the bubble with the daunting task of beating USF, a team that won 20 games in The Big East, to play in. Winning the Pac 12 Conf. didn't get Wash. in, but Colo. got a bid by winning the tourney over Ariz. last night. Cal's 24-9 record and having Mike Montgomery as their Head Coach was just enough to squeeze them in. I'll be keepin' my eye on The Galloping Gaels of St. Mary's as well. Don't know which Ohio St. team will show up from day to day lately, good luck Bucks.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Huge diss for Washington but they never played any good teams. Pac 12 is not so hot lately. Pleasing that the MWC got 4 in, finally some respect. I doubt the Aztecs will go deep this year, not enough bench with only 8 total scholarship players, wait until next year. This was supposed to be a rebuild season but who knew Coach Fisher would take them this far? Wolfpack is going to be a high hurdle but 5 days rest will do wonders for the Aztecs. We see the Gaels here when they play USD. They're a good team and may prove a shocker. Good luck to the Cal Bears, but I don't think it will help.

Fill out those brackets and let the madness begin! big_smile
