Sorry to be off topic, but Ted Templeton hit a nerve. I couldn't agree more. I used to buy unknown albums from the "cut-out" bins because he produced them. I learned early how profound an effect a producer can have.

I didn't know RM, but I know it hurts when another idol falls. I can't keep track any more sad    Cathy

No kidding! The Doobie's "Captain and Me" and "What Were Once Vices are Now Habits" were his, as well as the early Van Halen stuff. He also worked with the Michael McDonald Doobies, but I'll forgive him for that :-)

He played at 100 (percent), he was just on fire - he jumped around, just was a really high-energy performer. I learned all that from him, and everything I do today - no ego involved - it came from him, from seeing him perform that first time with Edgar Winter and then standing next to him within a week and rehearsing. I was always a high-energy guy, but I wasn't that way (onstage) until I got in Montrose."

Nice to see that from Sammy.

One of my all-time staples was going and seeing Ronnie Montrose and Robin Trower,seeing them play together numerous times..  That was it for me, 2 different styles but styles that are the cream of the crop and fit like hand and glove. It got to where I didn't want to see one without the other.  Ronnie Montrose was a bay area legend.

I had the pleasure of meeting Ronnie at a seminar he was doing. He talked about how one of my favorite all-time rock songs almost never got recorded.  That would be "Rock Candy".  He mentioned that if somebody hadn't had a tape of what they had did that day, it would have been lost forever.

He got a chuckle that day when I told him I nicknamed him Ronnie"Monster" Montrose. I said it was because he had that monster tone with those monster riffs.
He gave me music I will always treasure.

One thing that I liked about him is that he did guitar instrumentals.  This is one of my favorite ones that he did.  It's a remake of song with vocals. He put his own sound to it, the Montrose sound.  I chose this video because this is the picture Ronnie painted for me also. It wasn't somebody playing guitar, it was conveying a whole feeling with his composition and his fingers.  The dramatic style with which he plays at the end of the song is really a "Town without Pity

It will be held at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco on Friday, April 27. Tickets go on sale on March 30 at 10:00 am.

"A Concert For Ronnie Montrose - A Celebration of His Life In Music" will feature the original Montrose lineup (Sammy Hagar, vocals; Bill Church, bass; and Denny Carmassi, drums), performing the landmark first Montrose album, with special guest Joe Satriani on lead guitar.  The original Gamma lineup (Davey Pattison, vocals; Glenn Letsch, bass; Denny Carmassi, drums) will also be on hand, with special guest Marc Bonilla on lead guitar. There will also be an All-Star band, comprised of many of the great musicians that Ronnie played with over the years. Some of the confirmed artists include: Neal Schon from Journey, Steve Smith formerly from Journey, members of Tesla, Eric Martin from Mr. Big, Rickie Philips from Styx, Eric Singer from KISS, Tommy Thayer of KISS and Jimmy DeGrasso from Y & T and Alice Cooper.

Seriously thinking of going to this gig. Montrose was definately part of the soundtrack of my youth and it would be great to relive it again if only for a few hours.

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Got online ok but tickets sold out in no time. There was only floor standing available and it wasn't like Ticketmaster where you're given so long to complete the transaction. Fastest with the mouse, I suppose.Oh well, it was worth a try.

Think there might be a lot of VIP's at this gig.
