Topic: Anyone seen Jonny Lang recently?
Just curious - he's coming to our area and I know he has changed in the last year or so - wondering if he's
worth seeing.

Definately worth seeing...just saw him last tour, and he was a bit more acoustic,
but put on a great show
I've heard that now he's back to playing full-on electric. A guy said that at the show he was at they played about 6 songs from a new cd, and that they were harder and more bluesy than the last cd.

That's good news. I was kind of expecting him to go the Kenny Wayne Sheppherd route, & switch over to alternative.
Boda
johnny lang is a must see! you won't regret it
Kenny didn't do alternative, just a little bit more rock and little less blues.
Thanks guys - knew I could count on your expert knowledge - will be sure to catch the show !
saw Jonny last year (I had free tix) and loved some of the songs played live. I wasn't as into the show as I thought I'd be, but then again, I wasn't sure what to expect.
However, now that he has Barry Alexander on drums, I'd love to see him again. Unfortunately, the night he's playing here, I'm at another show, which works out fine because where Jonny plays here is pretty pricey and way out of my budget.
Jonny sings like he's got a hernia.
Jonny's voice is one of the best in the business.
TeleFrekSteve here!
I saw him last summer at the Jacksonville venue of the Britt Music Festival in Southern Oregon and also earlier in the year, Feb., at the Rogue Theatre in Grants Pass, Or. He was great and only did some acoustic numbers at the earlier date, but that may have been due to the fact that it was a very small indoor venue, which had the acoustics of a bathtub. And actually, the electric numbers sounded very good, too, but later on in the year, when he played the outdoor stage at Britt, the music was all electric and did sound better. I think the man is super at anything he does and the youngsters (except the Bass player, who's great, but looks about my age) he has with him are sounding really cool.
His keyboard and rhythm guitar player looked about 17, but was playing with a maturity beyond his years. YEP! Jonny's a real deal and a keeper in my grizzled old book!
Remember this, Jonny always has fun with his music. He's serious, obviously, but he is out ther just enjoying the Hell out of himself; and both times I saw him he said, "I still can't believe you people would come to see me." A very interesting and humble young talent, indeed....
LOL from Selma, OR,
Steve
Id love to get one of his album. maybe one day I'll buy one
You know who Ive been jamming to a lot recently? Frank Marino!
If you get a chance to see Jonny, take it. He is a class act that has played Portland a couple of shows last year. I had heard his next album was going to take a gospel slant. I think he could pull that off well. He surrounds himself with talented players.
His voice is amazing. Very soulfull.
I will see if he is coming back to the Pacific NW in the near future.
RockinRon
I had heard the gospel rumor, but someone who recently went to a show said he had returned to a more rockin' sound. He said that the new songs that are supposed to be on the new album were much more blues/rock based. Which is great news, if you ask me. I do hope one day he records a gospel album. He's got the voice for it.
