Topic: Bonaburst...1 yr later

A bit of a confession....when I bought the Bonaburst a year ago last Oct, I also purchased a LP Traditional Plus.  Intention was to mostly play the Trad. and display the Bonaburst....but play it now and again.  Problem was/is, the more I played the Bonaburst, the more the Trad. stayed on the wall.  Now, even after finally getting an American Std Strat, I find myself continually reaching for the Bonaburst.  This is one very fine instrument.....the feel, action, tone, sustain.....and looks.....great guitar.  Wildwood, Gibson, and Joe did some very nice work putting this together.  I've been reflecting on this a bit....
Especially knowing another Joe guitar will be coming out within the next couple of years....probably costing double what the Bonaburst was and evegthough inately I'll want one....How can I not be satisfied and not feel anything less than very fortunate to have what I already have.  Not sure what the point of all this was other than it's 3:30am, can't sleep, so came down and started playing ampless Bonaburst scales....greatful my eye candy is now more my ear candy...so, thank you Joe.

Bonaburst #18, JB Epi #191, MusicMan Darklord, LP Cherryburst Traditional Plus, Gigliotti GT, Takamine, Takamine 12 string, Martin D-28 & GPCPA1, Fender Amer STD Strat, Fender Custom Shop Gold Metalflake, Custom "OSU" Wagner Tele, Gibson SG Limited Govt Model, Jim Kelly Combo

You should always play your best guitar whenever possible - it will inspire you more and in realty you don't wear guitars out playing them.  Glad to hear you have really bonded with the Bonaburst.

As Joe said on the notes with the guitar. No closet queens. Play the hell out of it and beat it up. One fine product!

Nice story Denbon18. I like the looks of the Bonaburst over the Goldtop personally. Good thing you have been playing it rather than 20 years down the line and you look at the guitar and realize you lost out on 20 GOOD years you could have been playing it. -S

Re: Bonaburst...1 yr later

Denbon,

I'll admit that was my plan too - already had the JoBo Studio Goldtop as my main axe, but succumbed to the lure of the Bonaburst once they released the flame tops - and planned to kind of "baby" it.

That Studio Gold top is one fine playing guitar, but the Bonaburst is even better and now it's my main axe.

Oh yeah - I use the Gold top as my "downtuned" (Ballad of John Henry) guitar! smile

Re: Bonaburst...1 yr later

Before I got my JB Studio, I owned 8 guitars. I now own 5. Why? Because the others were collecting dust and deserved to be played, so they went for sale. One I gave away to a family member who was starting to play. I don't want art, I want guitars I will play. Now, I run the JB Studio as my principle guitar that I play on 90% of the stuff we do, a Fender Sienna Sunburst Strat, a Strat built from kit parts that was my first guitar (too sentimental), an Ibanez Artwood acoustic, and a Fender resonator. And honestly, that's all I want. You should always play your best guitars.

Re: Bonaburst...1 yr later

After I got my unaged gold top I never played my fenders so I sold all of them. I also sold a studio. The craftsmanship of a well built guitar that resonates so well acoustically like the JB's do makes it hard to play anything else. I just picked up a les paul classic for a slightly different tone and because I always wanted a burst but I have to say the JB still blows it away. I may be upgrading pickups soon.
