Topic: Rude Awakening

I had my clock alarm set for 7:00 AM this morning, but Mother Nature decided to awaken the Bay Area @ 5:33 with a 4.0 earthquake. I awoke to my bed and room vibrating and creaking for about 5 seconds or more. I turned on the morning news on TV to reports pouring in from viewers from all over the Bay that felt it and now an aftershock hit @ 6:03, but I didn't feel it. The BART train system is shut down as a precaution till their system is checked for any damage. The epicenter was a mile north of El Cerrito in the East Bay on the Hayward Fault about 12 mi. from where I'm at. We felt 2, 3.6 jolts just north of this mornings shaker last month about 15 hours apart. So far no serious damage reported, but nerves are frayed.

Y'all be careful over there on the far coast! I have never felt a quake in my life, though I have had the earth move for me. wink

Thanks G Dawg, no way to prep for these, at least not yet. Local FB friends are posting up as most were rattled awake as I was. Only minor damage of the stuff falling off shelves type stuff. The disturbing factor is that the Hayward Fault which runs north/south through the East Bay has been rumbling in this general area as of late. If this fault line really goes off it won't be pretty.

True, a good shaker was all, but when it wakes you up from a deep sleep it's a bit more unnerving.

Yeah, after the big one below Mexicali last year, we felt every one of the aftershocks for months. Bedroom on the 2nd floor and the old frame house would sway pretty good. I guess it is better to bend than break. Stay safe.
