Some info on Paul's tone
This guy has a shop near me and one in Baltimore. He has those Selmer amps, cheaper than the guitar.. He is strange though..

Those prices are just insane, plain and simple. Most people who will buy these and other similar guitars will sound the same on an Epiphone. And its usually the players and kids that can only afford an Epi, who can play really well.

Yes prices are INSANE. I do not agree with your second statement. "Most people who will buy these and other similar guitars will sound the same on an Epiphone. First an Epiphone is a great guitar that has enabled many to discover the love of the instrument. Secondly I have never heard of anyone at any skill level after playing a top notch guitar not able to play better and be inspired. So if one has the means to obtain a top notch guitar go for it you will become a better player.

I'm simply using the Epiphone as a price point. It doesn't take a 4,5,6 or 7+ thousand dollar guitar to give you any skill advantage over a moderately priced Les Paul. Look at the video Joe did at his house comparing all three of his signature models. ALL very similar in sound when he played them. The results would be the same for anyone playing all three. I've seen a lot of kids and such who have a deep love of playing that don't get caught up in the glitz n glam of high priced guitars who can totally outplay most people who have the higher end stuff. I got a brand new '89 PRS when I was 15, and yes it made me want to play even more, I'll agree with you there. Any new guitar will make anyone happy and give an inspirational boost for a while. It was a huge improvement over my Ibanez, BUT practicing more is what made me a better player, not a new guitar.
I have no problem with what people spend their money on. Its none of my business, but that is a lot of money for a guitar however you look at it.

I agree with everything you said the practicing part is a given. The wood and resonate aspects of most high end guitars will make your tone improve and subsqentily improve your playing by making you be inspired to practice more. I am not sure if you get my point but I think we are on the same page.

I use the JB Epi. It's a great guitar for the money, far better than many Epi's but if I could justify the expense I'd order a Bonaburst flame top from guitar village tomorrow. I'm sure it is better guitar but the difference will not justify the cost to me. You play the best you can. If there was no difference they would all be the same and boring. Each is an individual. I hope to prove it one day. Until then I'll still play the JB Epi as often as I can for my pleasure and love it for what it is. An awesome piece of kit. If I get a second LP guitar I can't see me replacing it. I'll just play both.
Just did some checking.....given I love the Epi JB....especially for the money, but can't even imagine how a LP can be any nicer than the Bonaburst....to spend no less than 2x to more than 3x on the following just seems nuts....and personally, Gibson should be ashamed to price a guitar over $10,000.....and yet threr must be a market.

I know guys that have never spent more than $500 for a guitar, and think anything over $1,000 would be insane. Likely there's guys here of the same mindest. No problem, spend what YOU want to spend, but don't cast aspersions upon others because they have different viewpoints.

Hmm... too expensive for me. Even at the current 'better than parity' foreign exchange rates, I can just see that when these hit Australia, the local Gibson distributor will have these listed for around $20,000 ! Yikes!
Perhaps this is why there are guys like Gil Yaron out there building handmade, beautiful replicas of virtually ANY Les Paul you would like....for far less than what Gibson charge for them...

Sorry you're confused, but my "aspersions" are directed towards Gibson. If an individual can afford whatever gottahave guitar They're drawn to....great. My point is Gibson's inflated prices. Maybe it's just me.
