Re: live earth concert?

yeah, its kind of ironic with who much electricity it takes to put on a concert and all the lights...yet they want to save energy and the environment.  Want an omelete, you gotta break a few eggs I guess.

Re: live earth concert?

they got a really amazing lineup of really popular musicians for that so i give them credit.  myself i hate to say it outside of metallica i dont think id pay to see any of those bands by themselves and even they are way past their prime but apparently still play all the classics live.  so for their goal a great lineup, though i am not sure how sincere a bunch of millionares who own double digit number of cars and live in mansions that suck up as much power as small villages are about caring about the environment.  im sure they are sincere about looking like they care about.  here is my take on the political side of global warming.  first of all it is real.  that i know, i dont know how immediate it is.  that isnt a challenge, i just actually have never found out how soon the serious problems will come.  and please dont say now, i know there are some now, im talking about that effect our daily lives.   i think we need government action to do something ab out it though.  and this idea that just telling people it is the right thing to do is going to work is ludicrous.  sure it is the right thing to do.  if people always went out of the way to do the right thing even if it caused them inconvenience, we wouldnt have global warming in the first place, wouldnt have a great many of the social problems we face today.  im not blaming anyone.  it isnt in our nature.  that is why we have government, and even though i really dont like the government i think now is one of the times they need to step in.

id just like to apologize for totally losing sight of the point of the topic, but after having written all that i figured id leave it.  here is a small summary.  im impressed with the star studded lineup, dont trust the sincerity of the motives of a lot of the celebrities that get involved in these causes(of course there are exceptions), especially when it is this many big name bands, and finally none of the bands look that appealing to me.  id see wolfmother if they played a gig in my hometown or a free one somewhere else.  and i hear mayer has much more soul live so actually i am very interested in him.  so there you have it.  have a good one.

Re: live earth concert?

I've been watching this all day.  Jack Johnson, Wolfmother, Linkin Park, Genesis, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metalica...  It's on Bravo.  Lot's of entertainment.  Some of the music I would buy,  some maybe not, but it's all entertaining...   Like Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas and Snoop Dog.  I think they are  so fun to watch.  Anyway, good to see everyone coming together to bring awareness to such an important cause.

It could be as soon as the next 50 years to when big changes start occuring. They say Antarctica and Greenland are melting faster than they anticipated.

Metallica was really good...what was better is SPINAL TAP...they had every bass player in the venue come on stage for "Big Bottom"...even guitar players from other bands came on stage with bass guitars... it was so cool...

BFD!!!! This was too effing political and self-serving! Give me a break! Get your name up on a screen if you text "support"..support my ****, they just want to play on dee drum all day.....wait...me too!!!

Rock On & Get With IT, and have some FAITH rather than scary judgement! I've been doing all that **##, much more for 37+ years.  Don't bust my chops like I don't care, becuase I do and I know the truth, inconveniently clear truth(s) to many who ballywho, whether in denial or not.

by the way I watched it on 2 channels and loved it as much as I couldn't attend any of IT of even worse, this year's Ottawa Bluesfest-WHAT A LINEUP THIS YEAR , or worser, see Joe Bonamassa lately or soon enough...We need another "real" Woodstock.

Re: live earth concert?

Rocket, glad you enjoyed it! I have a different perspective. The key to any movement is education. Like him or not Al Gore's movie opened some eyes. Seems pictures are worth 1000 words. There was a lot of information squeezed in between acts. I feel certain that lead to some family discussions and small changes that can make a difference. And, I've got to say, I feel like a citizen of the planet when they have these global events. I find that very powerful. I'm an old tree hugger who has preached the gospel of ecology to my grandchildren since day1. At least my great-great grandchildren will know I didn't just care, I acted...........That's hope.......Cathy

The concert I saw didn't seem to be political.  Just some great music and great tips to educate the public.  This is about a global effort to help the environment and mankind.  It's about trying to educate the masses as a whole in a grassroots way.  This is to let the rest of the world know that the American public does recognize and wants to help in the solutions to global warming.

It was great to have the world share in a concert experience.  I got to see Wolfmother and Crowded House playing from Australia, Lenny Kravitz playing from Brazil, and off to never never land with Metallica.

I was so happy to get to see the whole set of Alicia Keys.  Loved her new song and was pleased to see her pick Marvin Gaye's 'Mercy Mercy Me'.   It was written almost 30 years ago but she showed how relevent it still is today.  Which is sad.

One thing that we use that was one of their tips is the compact fluorescent light bulbs.  And Bamboo is being used more and more to make clothes.

Also in California, they passed legislation to have a million homes with solar roofs in the next 10 years.
Builders of new homes can offer solar panel roofs as an option to the homebuyer.  Also there are rebate programs to help people install solar panel roofs.  And you can sell excess power you produce back to the power companies for a credit on your bill. They are estimating it will provide 3000 megawatts of additional clean energy and reduce the output of greenhouse gases by 3 million tons, which is equivilant to taking one million cars off the road.

This is such a smart move for a state that has so much Sun.  Its wonderful what innovative technology can do.
