Well, went to see them last night at a sold out Academy 1 in Manchester, same place Joe sold out last trip to Manchester. Barn of a place next door to the University Students Union.
Support Act, didn't get their name sorry, were a solid four piece from the USA, presumably touring with the keys. They laid down a great performance in a kind rockabilly style, with the emphasis on Rock! They went down really well with the crowd, who drifted in throughout their performance. By the time they finished their set, the place was full.
Prompt at the 9.20 start time, Patrick and Dan set up on stage as a duo welcoming the audience, saying that they remembered from last time how "excitable" they were, throwing stuff on stage!!!! Oh dear I though, maybe I'm not in such a good position - front and centre, I'm going to get a beer shampoo!! I needn't have worried, all was fine. They kicked off with some of their earlier stuff to a great response from the crowd, clearly many were followers of the band, singing along and moshing with gusto! After a few great songs in which Patrick particularly impressed with his fully committed drumming, on comes their Bassist and Keyboards player to perform some of the songs from their new album - Brothers. A great album, which I can recommend! Again, they went down really well. Dan plays a great guitar is a very easy and fluid style, plenty of feedback and attitude. Later, they once again kicked off some songs as a duo, clearly with more well known songs (I had only picked up on them about four weeks ago) more singalongs and moshing, great atmosphere! For an encore they sang another 3 or 4 songs, some of which were as a four piece and some as a two piece, clearly a change to the set list as the guitar tech was left holding a guitar on more than one occasion.
All in all a brilliant gig, they are big, very big and if their new album is anything to go by they are going to be even bigger. If you get a chance, go see them, take some ear plugs because they are loud, almost unique and very good live! As soon as I get some video loaded I'll get it up on here!
Here you go - as a duo

I Got Mine!
Thanks for the great review and video clips Geoff. Glad you had a great time. It's been two and a half years since I last saw the Black Keys. I'm looking very much forward to seeing them on the October tour!
And a great night it was too. The duo came out to play around 9 songs from their earlier albums, then were joined by a keyboardist and bassist for a selection from the new album. The show was a sellout comprising primarily young music fans. The raw blues feel remains dominent in their live show and great to see so many enjoying what was a great show.
Here's the video for the first song off their new album El Camino, called Lonely Boy. Pretty wicked sounding.

...after the intro from 28 seconds on I hear Joe playing last kiss ...rip off!?
Just LOVE Sister, such a good vibe, great song. I will be seeing the Black Keys when I return from seeing my sister in Florida.
Safe travels #1, just saw the weather report. Soooo sad about all the destruction in that tornados path...then to have bad weather come over the same area...ugh.
Should be leaving right now to see The Black Keys for the 1st time in Cincinnati tonight but under a tornado warning as I type :0 Nothing but extreme severe weather from here all the way to Cincinnati!
This topic where I discovered the band, only have Brothers and El Camino and love both. Sister my favorite from El Camino
So fingers crossed we get a break in the weather to head north for the show.

Absolutely FANTASTIC show Saturday night. I'm seriously hooked, I haven't been this excited about a band since discovering Joe.
The Black Keys are SO unique, they are mixing up all sorts of things that simply work well together and delivers great music!! Definitely, my new favorite band.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertain … 648.column Interesting article and comments about being as big as they could be without a radio hit, until licensing songs.
