Topic: Nylon saddles for the bottom 3 strings

I have an Epi JB Les Paul.  I saw that on most of his guitars that Joe uses nylon saddles for the bottom 3 strings.  Does this really enhance the tone?  What kind of saddles should I get and are the hard to replace?

Re: Nylon saddles for the bottom 3 strings

Where can you get them if you're based in the UK?

Re: Nylon saddles for the bottom 3 strings

I don't know about enhance but it will certainly change the tone, probably a cheap enough mod to try though, seems to work for Joe!

That's how my Bonaburst came - including top-wrapping the strings: http://kestrou.com/images/bonaburst3.jpg

And here's a short article on exactly this topic: http://www.300guitars.com/300s-tips/300 … idge-both/

I put a set of 6 on my '58 RI, as it was overly bright, and it certainly helped to tame it down a bit.

All six? Usually they are put on the E B G strings to help the transition from high to low be more equal in brightness. How do you like it? Isn't the D A E to damped?

Re: Nylon saddles for the bottom 3 strings

It sounds great actually, it retained the clarity but reduced the brightness- if that makes sense?Don't forget Gibson fitted them as standard in a lot of '60's guitars.

Re: Nylon saddles for the bottom 3 strings

I've only seen them in sets of six. So that's sort of cool if you'd like to do two guitars.
Not sure about tone, but the ones on my strat prevented string breakage very well.
