Re: Joe's show on Planet rock

Here's the playlist from 2 nights ago:

Bobby Blue Bland - Further On Up The Road
Delaney & Bonnie & Friends - I Don't Want to Discuss It
Deep Purple - Child In Time (Made In Japan version)
Neil Young - Ohio
Rod Stewart - I Know I'm Losing You
Roy Buchanan - Sweet Dreams
Whitesnake - Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City
Johnny Winter - Rock & Roll Hoochie Koo
Free - I'm A Mover

Had never heard the original Further On Up The Road before, it was awesome. The Whitesnake tune was awesome as well. It'd be cool to see all the music Joe has in his collection. Bet he has a ton.

Re: Joe's show on Planet rock

Did anyone hear Joe's show on Planet Rock today? I would've listened to it, but the On Demand feature on Planet Rock is not listing it for some reason. I guess I could look and see in the playlists what the songs were, but I like being surprised when I listen to it. Hope the problem is solved later.

Don't have the list but it was killer today.

Re: Joe's show on Planet rock

Thanks bluesdeluxe, saves me a job. big_smile
Joe's show on PR is definitely one of the highlights of the week for me.

Some great stuff from Joe's iPod as always and I also enjoyed a track from the underrated Zep album Presence, some sublime blues from Ronnie Earl Cream, Jeff Beck and Buddy Guy.

Joe, yes, SWLABR was written by Jack and Pete Brown and allegedly is an acronym for She Was Like A Bearded Rainbow, although some think it's She Walks Like ... I prefer the former.

As mentioned on the Other Artists forum recently, Going Down is one of my favourite songs covered by live bands and I totally agree that only Freddie and Jeff can really "do it". And yes, I did crank it up. Hearing this track from the Orange album reminded me of seeing this incarnation of the Jeff Beck Group at the Roundhouse in London circa 1972. Superb musicians and the playing was so tight.

Re: Joe's show on Planet rock

It was a bit sad hearing the Montrose song after the news of his passing. Since Joe didn't say anything about it, I assume he recorded this show before anyone got the news.

Re: Joe's show on Planet rock

Best show for ages a lot of my favourites especially Frampton and Humble Pie, but all superb really. Also Joe stated his preference for live recordings same as mine. I wish my guitar playing had as much in common. Hope to see some of you at Sheffield. Look for the Bill Bailey lookalike and say Hi. (yes I really do). List is in reverse order as it's easier that way....

Humble Pie I Don't Need No Doctor

Peter Frampton Doobie Wah

Dickey Betts Rock Bottom

ZZ Top Goin' Down To Mexico

Led Zeppelin Travelling Riverside Blues

Otis Rush Sit Down Baby

Johnny Winter Still Alive And Well

King Crimson 21st Century Schizoid Man

Free Woman

Robben Ford Born Under A Bad Sign

Good to hear that Joe digs live albums. When my own musical preferences were being formed during my senior year of high school and my first year of college, a staggering number of iconic live albums were being released, including The Who's Live at Leeds (1970), The Rolling Stones' Get Yer Ya-Yas Out! (1970), Woodstock (1970), Jimi Hendrix's Band of Gypsys (1970), Cream's Live Cream (1970) and Live Cream II (1972), The Allman Brothers' At the Fillmore East (1971), Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's 4 Way Street (1971), B.B. King's Live in Cook County Jail (1971), Johnny Winter And's Live (1971), Humble Pie's Performance Rockin' the Fillmore (1971), Rory Gallagher's Live in Europe (1972), Edgar Winter's Road Work (1972), The Band's Rock of Ages (1972), J. Geils Band's "Live" Full House (1972), etc.  I don't think there's been a two-year stretch of live recordings like that before or since, and it certainly spoiled me...  wink

Its a live acoustic DVD of 6 shows starting with Montreaux Jazz Festival and ending at North Sea Jazz Festival. The set will have 15 songs. Ball Peen Hammer given as an example (different band members than current).
