Topic: NGD: Bonaburst FLAMETOP!

I almost jumped on the first run of Bonaburst guitars - nice looking - but I liked the Gibby Studio Goldtop for 1/3 the price instead.

Well, then they did an EEEEEEVIL thing - they upped the ante to "flame top" and my knees just buckled!  yikes

Here it is with the case just opened - and it has Joe's signature mismatched volume/tone knobs.  For whatever reason the ferrule isn't installed on the rhythm/treble switch (but it was included in the case in a little plastic baggie).

Pickguard, pickup mounts and poker chip are also in classic JoBo black - but can you see the flame from there?
http://kestrou.com/images/bonaburst2.jpg

Strings are top-wrapped, and the bridge saddles for the highest three strings are nylon, while the low three are steel - which is evidently what JoBo himself likes http://www.300guitars.com/300s-tips/300 … idge-both/
http://kestrou.com/images/bonaburst3.jpg

Oh!  Be still my heart!  The top looks to be about six inches deep!!!  yikes
http://kestrou.com/images/bonaburst4.jpg

Grover locking tuners (just like on the Studio Goldtop), but they look a little bit "aged" here:
http://kestrou.com/images/bonaburst5.jpg

Oh yeah - and it came with Dunlop Straploks installed too.

That's the quick overview - would appreciate details anyone can offer on it that I don't know.  Like...

Since this came from the Gibson Custom Shop - does that mean it was Plek'd?
Is this a nitrocellulose finish on top of the burst?
What specific pick-ups are in it?

One happy camper!!! smile

Where’s the jealousy Icon??

Now all you need is a set of Bona-PAF’s to replace the BurstBucker2/3

I think the metal saddles are nickel plated brass.

Yes it is plek'd
Yes nitro - but the gibson nitro is fairly plastic these days - they wouldn't be allowed the old compound anymore.

Re: NGD: Bonaburst FLAMETOP!

Very nice! Play in good health! Regarding the nitro, it's fairly thick on the top as well. I got a ding on it and was actually able to polish it out with some Turtle Wax Clay Bar. Looks good as new. smile

Re: NGD: Bonaburst FLAMETOP!

Congrats on the new guitar.... I just bought JB-114 from Wildwood.   I should get it out on the road late next week.   They look stunning..  I picked out a light one.   Should be tons of fun!!

Wish I had the money but don't. If you have, Guitar Village are showing them as in stock now for £3299.

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)

Joe - I just can't tell you how pleased I am with this guitar - it's everything I've ever dreamed of in a VERY nice guitar!  Even my wife is impressed with the flame top and how classy the overall package looks. cool

Mine is #083 - there were about 16 of them on Wildwood's site when they were first posted there - I used the "compare" feature to pick out what I thought were the six flamiest (is that a word? smile )  and then compared weight too.  The one I got was the lightest (hair under 8.5 pounds) and was the flamiest to my eye based on the pics posted.

I believe your goal was to inspire people to play more - so I have to tell you that's been accomplished here!!!

I can't believe JB has to buy his own signature guitar!

Will it be coming to Brighton in March Joe?

Re: NGD: Bonaburst FLAMETOP!

That's a great guitar.  Congratulations!

I'm still playing my plain top Bonaburst but the flame tops look very exciting.

Congrats again!

Re: NGD: Bonaburst FLAMETOP!

The plain top Bonabursts didn't do much for me, but those flame-tops are killer.

Re: NGD: Bonaburst FLAMETOP!

Anyone know how many they made of these guitars ?

Going  to pickup nr 69 this week here in the netherlands.. Can't wait
