Topic: Paul Kossoff 1959 Les Paul Standard...

Yes, you too can own one of these beauties for the very inexpensive price of $10,351 for the Green Lemon VOS or, $15,292 for the Green Lemon Aged. Gee, at these discount prices, I may pick up a half dozen! Do you think I might get a discount buying in bulk? roll

OK, all kidding aside, I'm sure this is a very fine guitar and it will be released in very limited quantities, but for goodness sake, it's a REPLICA! And Paul Kossoff isn't even alive to have consulted on it's construction. Granted, if you read the detail in which Gibson is going to recreate this guitar it does impress however, it's still just a shadow of the real thing.

I know Joe loves LP's and has many of them dating far back. He even has his own (two) authentic "Holy Grail" 1959 LP's, but considering that Joe not only provided his original LP Goldtop and consulted with Gibson on the 300 replicas of his great guitar, these prices are way, way out of whack as compared to what Gibson wanted for the JB signature LP Goldtop!

Re: Paul Kossoff 1959 Les Paul Standard...

Yes it's expensive.....pretty cool...although
I think the Gary Moore/ Melvin Franks was a better deal..at least Gary signed the COA on the aged ones......RIP Gary

And so castles made of sand melts into the sea, eventually.........

Re: Paul Kossoff 1959 Les Paul Standard...

It's getting out of control, though these are the MSRP prices, so actual price should be lower, though still expensive!  Lucky for Gibson, there's still plenty of players that gobble these up!

(BTW, I think the original JBLP guitars were created based on Joe's memory of a guitar his father owned and Joe loved to play.)

Re: Paul Kossoff 1959 Les Paul Standard...

Joe seems to like his Gary Rossington replica enough to make it a highly feaured guitar, so you never know what kind of magic Gibson can pull off on some of these historics.  I know I would love to have a Pearly Gates . . .

Gibson 60th Anniversary 1959 Les Paul Reissue, Gibson LP Standard Faded CSB, Gibson Gary Moore LP Standard, Epi Joe Bonamassa GT LP, Epi Zakk Wylde LP, Dean Michael Schenker Flying V, Jackson Randy Rhoads V, ESP/LTD George Lynch Kamikaze, EVH Striped Series R/B/W, Fender/Squire John 5 Telecaster, Fender Joe Strummer Relic Telecaster

Re: Paul Kossoff 1959 Les Paul Standard...

Wow, that's a lot of money.  Of course they'll be street priced less than MSRP - but sheesh.

Still, I bet you get free shipping. smile

Re: Paul Kossoff 1959 Les Paul Standard...

i have too admit, if i'd had a choice at the time between my JBLP,GM/PG LP or the KOSS LP, i think it would have been a close call!.......but i think i may have gone for the KOSS LP.......i think its a steal compared to the Beano EC LP,which lets face it at least Gibson were able to have KOSS's LP in which to replicate it........in my opinion the Beano LP is an over priced joke!

Re: Paul Kossoff 1959 Les Paul Standard...

Are these released for sale? Yeah VERY EXpensive but sounds appetizing

The Beano is effectively like Joe's goldtop - a guitar put together by the artist with their choices of finish, pickups, hardware - they aren't accurate reverse engineered replicas of a particular guitar.

If you look at it like this it makes sense and if you like that artist's choices and the endorsment / association then there you go.

Re: Paul Kossoff 1959 Les Paul Standard...

I was familiar with Paul Kossoff - but have gone back and listened much more closely than I ever have before.

GREAT guitarist - what a touch he had...

Telling you boys money doesn't equal tone.  Tone is in the hands the technique of your playing.  Buy this guitar or anything in this price range expect to keep it for life.  I'm sure its going to play and sound amazing, but for a fith of the price a Les Paul Standard will get you pretty darn close.  Even Epiphones can get you a ball park range.  So please consisder that if your only looking at this for the sound of that player, get over it!  Your never going to nail it unless you got either the hands for it, or practice until you got it dead on.  This is a collectors only guitar imho

I know that Paul Kossoff is one of JB's influences and I had decided to research some of his stuff as a way of learning something different and improving my own playing.

I bought the free story at the weekend and have been busy listening - Paul had a way of playing the simpliest things but making them sound so alive.  The main Br. Big riff for instance...
