Topic: Being like Joe

Hey guys, I'm a 16 year old guitar player/singer from Australia in my final year of high school and I want to make a career out of music once I complete school. I don't want to seem like a spammer but I'd be really grateful if some of you guys (maybe even JB himself) could check out my demos I have recorded myself.

Thank you to all who do, Stefan Hauk.

Re: Being like Joe

If 'Take Control' is in any way definitive of the direction you are taking then you should check out a guy who is actually also a member here. Scroll down in 'Other Artists' and you will even find his thread from a couple of days ago.

His name is Dirty Dave Osti and 'Take Control' is along some of the same lines as Dave took on his 'Voodoo Guitar' album. You should check him out and I'm sure if you write to him he WILL get back to you as he is a cool guy and a real great player.

I don't know if you want feedback on the song as such so I'll not go into any great detail. For me at 5.47 it was too long. You could cut 2 minutes out of and have a much snappier track. Maybe the last verse isn't necessary for a recorded track - something you could save for live perhaps. If you want more say the word.

What isn't in doubt of course, is that at 16, you are already wholly proficient. More time and experience is going to broaden and enhance the talent and skill you already have.

Good luck with your ambitions

thank you very much for your feedback mate! Yeah it is fairly long, if I were to release it I definitely would cut it down. Take control is sort of the ground I'd like to stand as I like to play both blues and classic rock and I'm always trying to find middle ground!!

Here's the Dave Osti thread.

Not saying in anyway your track was derivitive it just immediately reminded me of Dave's style on that particular album.

Hi Stefan,
Just had a look at your links - you've got something good going there. Only advise I can give you is that if it's something you're set on doing, then stick at. The more you put in, the more you get out and don't get discouraged. All the best to you for wanting to keep music "live".

Mike

Cheers mate, I am constantly working as hard as I can on my playing!! I can only dream of being half as good as guys like Joe, Kossoff and Clapton!!

Re: Being like Joe

Good stuff Stephan. Keep plugging and chasing your dream. Hard work and perseverance is most of the battle. Good luck.
