Re: Joe getting too big ?

but see that's the whole point....i am someone who 100% agrees that you get what you pay for......when i buy my music gear I dont skimp, when i go on vacations i dont skimp, when i buy things for my house I dont skimp.....but i can see the value of those things and make the positive correlation a little easier than I can with costs of concert tickets these days.

and its not just concert tickets....i also agree that NFL, NBA, MLB games etc....and WAY overpriced........it's crazy.  I buy the NFL sunday ticket every year on Directtv and I'm about to reach my gag point on that.......

i think Joe is incredible and I have seen him live muliptle times....i own Joe shirts, all of the dvd's and every album.....as a fan I have and will continue to do my part to help him succeed....I hope he is rich and comfortable financially.....i dont have an issue with Joe making money.

what I'm saying is that even though I'm a lifelong musician and music fan I can put a value on these things and I can honestly say that paying the current prices for shows including Joe's is overpriced.....in my humble opinion...it's not that they arent great shows...Joe does a good job.

but when i can see bands like King's x for 17.50 and robben ford for 35 then i think paying close to or over 100 for Joe and nearly 150 plus for van halen is just too much.  and even if you do suck it up and do it when he blows thru town it has to give you pause when he blows thru town again 6-8 months later.....at least it does me.

in recent months/past year i have seen Joe and Styx and RUSH......i have tickets to see roger waters and I want to see joe in lexington and i wanted to see van halen in louisville.  all of those shows did/would have cost me $2000 to see inlcuding gas money for travel.  I say $2000 because I always buy two tickets because my wife and I go together.  but that still averages out to be $166 per ticket per person.  To me that is OUTRAGEOUS.....but I am addicted to live music and I love concerts so I still go but in recent years I have started going to fewer and fewer and fewer and if prices continue to drive up then I seriously see myself eventually going to zero concerts per year and that saddens me beyond belief.

ok, excuse me let me step down off my soap box before i fall......lol

guys I love Joe, I love live music, this is not me upset at Joe personally......i'm just bummed out about what is happening to ticket prices for live music.....

Re: Joe getting too big ?

Happy that Joe has made it to the top !

Like everything else ticket prices have gone up ......

In my opinion.....the prices are inflated by the scalpers.....so we are not able to get what we pay for...

And so castles made of sand melts into the sea, eventually.........

Re: Joe getting too big ?

I never was questioning the worth/value of the ticket and show, just though it was high for this venue due to seating etc. ,  Joe to me always delivers the product, I have seen him 3x prior,  twice at this Hampton Beach and its gone up 25 % each time , I have seen many  a shows here Ted Nugent, 38 special, BCC, and never paid more than $ 75 for a gold seat. I think this is the most expensive show I have seen at Hampton CC ever.  Granted it looks like all seats sold out and only GA left so the price is warranted even though you check the scalpers seems like plenty there for 3-4x face value. In comparison to sporting event a previous poster mention it's a no brainer the "entertainment value"  for JB is there I would never pay some of the money for a sporting ticket they are asking for now a days, plus in the end you can get disappointed if your team looses. With Joe that's not going to happen. In reference to Madonna  to me that is ridiculous to pay that kind of money her, Lady Gaga, Usher etc, are no different than  cirque-de-sole,  a traveling circus

Re: Joe getting too big ?

In these austere times, people are cutting back on everything - live music included. More importantly, never spend more than you earn - a rule of thumb that has served me well over the years!
Not sure if i'll get to see Joe this year.

Amen, Joe's prices are more reasonable than a lot of other artists. and yeah, go check out the professional sports ticket prices, you will be astounded. I cannot justify the cost of tickets to see even the Atlanta Hawks in my own backyard.
I just checked on pricing for TPAC at Nashville,TN on May 10 and where I want to sit is $59 plus service charge. TPAC is a state of the art group of concert halls, already been there once to see him and the sound was amazing.
I paid $40 or $45 to see Jeff Beck back in the mid 90's. I paid $52 per ticket to see U2 on the popmart tour, later 90's. Where is the argument that his tickets are overpriced? It just ain't so, it doesn't hold water. Get in early, don't buy from the scalpers.

Re: Joe getting too big ?

He's got to pay for those bursts some way! I don't think the prices are that bad at all considering the show he puts on. I've paid to see him everytime he's come round for the last 3 years and will if BCC play too.

Re: Joe getting too big ?

Where you want to sit tonight ? How about at home with a hot dog and a cold beer. lol
It's all relative Jackson, would you rather see a basketball game that will be forgotten quickly, or Joe ? I'll opt for the latter at a fair market price, whatever it is for that venue. I do realize that these are the inflated second hand prices.

Re: Joe getting too big ?

I have no beef with ticket prices. A HUGE problem I have is getting online at the crack of tickets going on sale and getting 26th row or something similar. Absolutely no chance of the choice seats. There is something wrong...tickets are being held back and going to scalpers or whatever. One show I saw a woman go up to the window and buy tickets an hour before showtime. I was a bit surprised near showtime when she and her date sat down 5 rows in front of us. To me, this is the real downside of playing the larger venues joe plays, at least as far as his fans are concerned.

You said a mouthful there Bill and I totally agree with you! Last time I tried to get tickets, I got in at the very first second of the pre-sale and yet was offered 8 to 9 rows back. How in the world can that be? roll Hey, I'll pay absolute top dollar to be in the first row to see Joe. The question is, how do we make that happen?

Re: Joe getting too big ?

Great comments...I have been to the Casino many times inc. 2 Joe shows. It is my least fav venue of all time. (But I have some in our posse that love the venue.) Everything MAC said is correct re seating views etc. But as many have said  - it is supply and demand. I have cut back on live shows so I can afford Joe atleast once a yr. Thankful the northeast is always on his radar!
I trust Joe's camp read these forums and know that the true fans will always pay to see Joe. I realize the avg fan like me does not understand the costs of a given show.
I do think the percentage increase may have to level off at some point. If you take the Casino and the $110 vs what I paid a couple of yrs ago his seats could be $150. in couple of yrs. Would I pay that much? Tough one... (venue "fees" piss me off also.)
SOMETHING has to be done to control the scalpers - agreed! I am for the old days when I would have to take a day off from work and stand in line...that's when the true fans get the good seats.
The good news this tour - the best seats at the Bushnell in Hartford. How? Pure luck!

Re: Joe getting too big ?

at least we dont have seat problems in germany as there are mostly standing venues or mixed ones.
if you come soon enough you will be in front. thats what we always do.
i have said what i think about the ticket prices he gets now, everybodys decision, but way much to high for somebody who has not written much music history yet and surly much to high for lot of people who dont write anything here. maybe he and the people round him will be down to earth somewhen again.

Excellent post!!!!

Congrats to Joe!!!

If you look up to the heavens just before the start of every Joe Bonamasaa concert you can see Stevie, Jimi, Muddy, Gary and others leaning over God’s railing jockeying for the best view.
And if you listen, you can hear Stevie say  “ SHHhhhh,  The kids about to start playing.”
