Topic: Joe getting too big ?

Just curious I was getting my tickets for Hampton Beach Casino and I was stunned at $110 bucks a seat. Granted nice and cozy venue to see him but this place is a borderline Honky Tonk to me, not the best seating arrangement there ,have to turn sideways to view the stage and I have seen many shows there in the last few years and  even BCC last summer was I think $30 bucks less for the Gold section. Are the Ticket prices going up everywhere for Joe or is it just the economy?

It's supply and demand my friend. Joe IS getting more and more popular (i.e. "big") every year. I've got tickets to the Portland show and I was thinking about going to the Casino show as well. But the combination of travel time, the venue (CC is a poor venue) and ticket prices kept me from buying tickets.

Regarding ticket prices, I look at it this way; I currently pay $180/mo for cable and $100+ a month for my phone. I barely use either so I'm not really getting much for my dollar. But, I *WILL* pay whatever it costs to go see Joe play at least once a year. For $100 a ticket, I feel I'm DEFINiTELY getting my money's worth at a Joe show.  Besides it's only $2.00 a week.

Re: Joe getting too big ?

I was on the phone with my brother who has seen JB in the past...."Joes playing in Reno on April 20th, you want to go?".....how much are tickets he ask...." I hear they are getting pricey, $20 maybe?"...."dude, you need to get out more, try $65 and up"....my bro was floored!!....someday I may never get a chance to see him if I dont buy them the first day or two

Re: Joe getting too big ?

God help me for admitting this on Joe's Forum but I just paid $355 per ticket ($771 after fees and whatnot) to see Madonna in Philly and I don't even enjoy her music, my wife is a big fan.  Both tickets were purchased through Ticketmaster and the seats are 16 rows off the floor and the section in hockey terms is right at the blue line near the stage...good seats not great.  Mind you, I would pay my wife $100 to avoid seeing a two hour aerobics show where the performer doesn't say goodnight or thank you at the end of her show (happened last time she was in town).  Consider yourself lucky.

The only good that came out of this is that I was able to justify and get permission for a NGD.

Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.

Re: Joe getting too big ?

I think there may be other factors for why ticket prices are higher. Sure, Joe is getting more and more successful (and well-deserved), but since J&R rent each venue themselves, there could be a lot of cost variability.

I have tried to see Robin Trower live for two years in a row. Tickets to see him at a casino east of Seattle have never been less than $200 each. I'm sure it's a great show, it sells out every time, but that's a tad hefty for a date night.

Hmmm, here in Germany I had to pay about 20 Euros in 2010 for Robin Trower.
Acutally I would not pay every ticket price neither for Joe nor for another band.

Wow, incredible to see Robin can command that sort of money at this stage of his career. As Blues Sissi has said we get to see him here in Germany for around 30-40 Euros or so. Small venues too so you get a loss closer to him than I did in the '70's.

That said Robin is always way too loud at points. Almost like he just doesn't get he isn't playing arena's any more.

Joe's pricing are climbing and on the last tour here they were more than I wanted to pay. I don't begrudge him that, and he is filling the venues so the market is there. It is just that at this point he will be going over my limit, what with travel costs and so on.

Re: Joe getting too big ?

The only money I've really seen go into the show so far is Roger Waters' The Wall.

The rest is excuses...
Sorry Indy, regardless of your wife (who you must love no doubt about it)...that is disgusting...plain disgusting. Wrinkled old drag artist that she is.

Re: Joe getting too big ?

I'm seeing Joe in Buffalo in May 2012..
his best seat in the house is $89 and I bought late for near the second row balcony for $69

So I guess the question is.. where is the mark-up happening?

(BTW Indy.. you got "scalped".. + $335 for a performer that doesn't even sing at her concerts? yikes)

(If only I had 1% of Joe's guitar talent)

This price seems reasonable to me. Great performer, nice venues. If Joe were coming to my town in a couple months, I'd have my tickets in a heartbeat, no hesitation.

I AM hesitating on purchasing Van Halen tickets. $338 for 2 tickets at the Tacoma Dome. Still thinking about it.

Re: Joe getting too big ?

I really don't think many of us here believe Joe is getting too big. If he did only a handful of shows a year and a new album every 5 years, then one could make an argument. We're obviously a LONG way from that. It seems the real question is, "Do tickets to Joe's shows cost too much?". Well, if he's selling out, or nearly selling out, the venues he's playing, the obvious answer is "No".

Re: Joe getting too big ?

The question is what value you put upon seeing Joe of course.  On his last Aussie tour, he wasn't playing in our city, so my son and I flew from one end of this land to the other in order to catch a show.

Actual ticket prices were I think $65, but after airfares and accommodation, our tickets prices were around $1500 EACH!  But no matter - We got to meet Joe and enjoyed the concert.  Cannot put a price on that...

lol Sorry Dave, I should have clarified that *I* cannot put a price on that.  The whole experience basically equated to a 'bucket list' moment for me.  Which is why I probably won't do the same thing again necessarily, but I am glad nevertheless that I did it, at least once, in my lifetime.

It's all about priorities and what you want to spend your income on I guess.  I was taken aback when a friend of mine told me he had spent $5000 on a watch the other day.  I mean - I've never worn a watch worth more than $100, and in fact haven't worn a watch in nearly 10 years.

Then again - HE can't understand why I would pay $5000 for a guitar, as he has an old classical worth $100 that he happily bangs on...

Horses for courses... big_smile

Re: Joe getting too big ?

Hi
I am going to comment on the question "Joe Getting to big" not on the ticket prices that most of the time are drivin by supply and demand, scalpers etc.
So is Joe getting to big? I say the bigger the better. I can't think of a more deserving talented guitar slinger then Joe to take it to the stratisphere. Folks in case some of you haven't noticed, but I know most of you do, Joe is a living legend in the making. None of us can control the prices.

Points from me for biting the bullet and making your wife happy. Michael Lynch's Sharon is also an avid Madonna fan. Respecting each other's tastes. Bonus points.
In answer to the question. This is the Catch 22 of being a Joe fan. You can't help but spread the word and root for others to be blown away ,yet, when it happens, and more fans want a piece of him, we become separated from him by distance, finances, and competition for face time. For myself, I always saw this coming, and, due to maternal instincts, lol, I've championed it and relished his success. Now my shows may be less frequent, involve an airplane, and become more complicated they will also be grander, involve reunions with Bonabuddies. Bigger adventures.
I miss the "good old days", but there is a whole crop of fine young players I've been introduced to on this forum. I am happy to champion them because the genre deserves a next generation.         Then again I'm old and may be confused smile  Cathy
