I know from playing my mid-90s Standard that there are very few other Standards that are as good...that was just luck. I can guarantee there are 59 LPs out there that sound magical...i.e. better. I know there must be a lot of Custom Shop guitars that sound better...
BUT to an average coffee sippin fool like myself...the price hike does NOT justify this. Would I two or three OR more of Standards like mine...or one Custom that I feel plays a bit smoother (so no one knows this offstage), rings better (no idea in a gig situation) or has a nicer top and little cosmetics.

I say this because I ran round the other day trying out every single guitar in a major store...100-5000 prices...majorly disappointed in the new EVH guitars...PRS have no idea what they are...nearly all new Gibsons are of a closed sound and this is where you now seem to have to pay a good solid amount to get a sweet sound.

What am I paying for? Oh yes, America to build it for me.
Anyone here with an Ibanez, Orville, Burny or Tokai Les Paul? I'm tempted to start looking...

Some of the best les paul style guitars I've played have been out of ESPs Japan shop, wonderfully built and not just for metal.

That said, I'll always edge towards a gibson, and 58/59s ever more so, they've just got 'that' about them.
