Topic: Speaker recommendation for my 2555

Hi,

I am looking at reloading one of my 412's with a better match for my 1987 2555 Silver Jube. I really like Joe's Jubilee tone and I realize the he likes the EVM12L but they would be pretty much over kill in my situation plus the expense. What are the recommended alternatives for similar tone? Many people recommend the V30 for Jubes but most clips I have heard of a Jube paired with a V30 sound more like Slash and that's not what I am after. For the last 25 years I have used it with G12T-75's and I think I am missing out on something.

Plus you'd add 20kg or more to a 4x12. Cool speakers - but I don't have a roadie.

I would recommend G12 Century speaker. Neodymium magnets. Weigh nothing. Sound superb for any style.

I have EVM12L's and love them. Oh yes they are very heavy but they can handle abuse and they do not add any color to your tone. You get what the amp is pushing out without any added tone variation with the speakers. But then again like everything else it is in the ears of the listener.

Take a look at the Weber Michigans (ceramic). They are a "clone" of an EV12L, and I have tried them side by side, and they are very close to the same, the Michigan is cheaper at $110 a speaker. wink

anything over 120 watt speaker in Eminence would be decent speaker on more of a budget. Swamp Thang, etc.

I'm not certain the scumbacks are right for me and this amp. I don't think greenback tone brings out the best in the jubilee. Maybe the H series but I'm not so sure.

Save your cash for a EV12L. Well worth it and it will handle anything you through at it.

I have a cabinet with Scholz Classics (Sugarcones) and EV12s mixed. It's a great combo of speakers for that head.

His cabinets look like 4x12's but they are chambered on the inside as two vertical 2x12s. The cabinets are deeper than, say, a 1960A Marshall cabinet... and they have extra bracing to support the EVM 12-Ls.

I ordered a custom 2x12 cabinet from Forte Musical that fit the bill perfectly for my EVM-12Ls. Built to your own specs.

Yes. I know they are basically 212's and I wondered what the actual size is (ft3). How much space do the 2 12Ls have to move around in ?

Mojo used to build Joe's cabinets. They know the exact measurements and can build them for you or anybody. I'd contact them if you're considering having one built and you want it exact. I don't see what the point really is in having to have one the same size.. I doubt it will make any difference at all in sound. Using any alternative high wattage speaker will have about the same effect as the EVM12L if you're looking to save some money.
