Topic: Bonamassa Inspired Rig Demo

The video is uploading as I type and says it will take just under 3 hours. This is my first time posting videos on youtube so maybe i'm doing something wrong.

I put this rig together after some serious saving, a bit of luck and hunting on ebay. Please be easy on the playing, it's amazing how you **## yourself and start messing stuff up when you know it's gonna be bonamassa fans watching. I just made my way through some Joe tunes with nothing planned in advance. Literally hit recored and went for it.

My rig is

PRS DGT

Dunlop Cry baby
Hendrix Fuzz face
Hendrix Octavio
Fulltone Supatrem (joe's settings and on all the time)
Fulltone Fulldrive 2
Line 6 M5
Fulltone Deja Vibe
Zvex Box of Rock (on all the time) no boost and all knobs at noon.
Gig Rig  remote Loopy - loop 1 DD3 joes settings - loop 2 RV5 and on all the time

Marhsall 2553 50/25 set at half power with joe's settings on clean channel. Output Master volume at 2.5 (kids asleep up stairs)

Zilla cabs 2x12 with 1 x 12 baffle loaded with EVM12L

Home made plexi baffle.

Re: Bonamassa Inspired Rig Demo

Sounds good man! Made me get the old PRS Standard out too..! -S

Re: Bonamassa Inspired Rig Demo

Sounds good, I notice the jtm1 too, how does that sound?

Re: Bonamassa Inspired Rig Demo

Thanks for the kind words. As soon as I hit record my fingers seemed to freeze on me as well as my brain. The little jtm sounds great and excellent for low volume practice. Think the who's live at leeds with guitar straight in. with pedals it can be anything. With my strat it's little wing all the way.
The big rig took me 5 years to build. Again thanks for the nice words.

In the demo the m5, fuzz, octavio and univibe aren't used. Might do a demo with those at some point. With my strat I can get some great hendrix tones.

Re: Bonamassa Inspired Rig Demo

The demo of my rig with the strat and hendrix pedals is uploading as I type. I hit record and went through some hendrix riffs etc as I went. Nothing planned in advanced.

You can hear some radio interference coming through the Fuzz at times annoying but part of the charm. Pedals used were,

hendrix fuzz
hendrix Octavio
fulltone deja vibe
Zvex box of rock
Boss RV 5

Into the marshall 2553 set with Joe's settings but on the clean channel. Camera battery dies on me right at the end.

Guitar used was my partsocaster. Body from 60's roadworn, neck from kenny wayne shepherd strat. Pickups from Eric Johnson strat. Plastic parts from 60's road worn. Tuners from a road worn tele. bridge from american 62 reissue with graph tech saddles from the KWS strat.

Volume was low again due to the kids sleeping upstairs.

Re: Bonamassa Inspired Rig Demo

Ahhh I remember my first gear demo uploads. No worries Fuzzblues, everything sounded great! The nerves will go away eventually just like when you play live for the first few times. I think my recording anxiety is much higher than when I play live or in front of a bunch of people...

Anyways your JB tone is spot on dude. I love that little mini Marshall too!

'67 and '74 Fender Twin Reverbs, '74 Marshall 1987 lead mkII, Metro Superlead 100. Pedals from TC Electronic, Ibanez, Dunlop, BK Butler, Electro-Harmonix, Fulltone, Maestro/Gibson, Loopmaster switching, VoodooLab, Boss. Gibson and Fender guitars, Dimarzio pickups.

Thanks stratpaulguy. I have watched your demos many times looking for settings on pedals etc. Whe i listen back  to the bonamassa vid I think there perhaps a bit too much gain. Maybe it's just not coming through how I thought on the video camera.

Re: Bonamassa Inspired Rig Demo

Two words: YouTube compression. It sounds great and I'm sure it sounds even better in person. Keep them coming!

Hi !

I'm french and I'm a new member on this forum. Because Joe Bonamassa is the best guitar player for me, his tone and his filling are so increadible for me. Today I don't have his filling but i'm looking for his tone... Can you help me ?

My guitars :

- Gibson SG (2004) With Humbucker Gibson 490R (neck) and Gibson 498 (Bridge)

My amps :
- Orange Rocker 30 (without effect loop)
- Marshall JCM800 2210 (with effect loop) (and spring reverb)
- Homemade Plexi 18w (without effect loop) only Tone and Volume Control

My Cabinets :
- Orange 2*12 open back (Celestion Vintage 30)
- Homemade 2*12 (1*12 Celestion g12T75 and 1*12 Celestion C90 Black Shadow = HP for Mesa boogie Cabinet)
- Homemade 4*12 (2*12 Celestion Vintage 30 and 2*12 G12T75)

My Effects :
- Supply T-REX Full Tank Classic
- Reverb Electro harmonix Holy Grail
- Delay Boss DD2
- Overdrive Maxon OD9 (=Ibanez TS9)
- Overdrive Dunlop Pork Loin (Way Huge)
- ABY Tonebone Radial Twin City (with '180°' switch and 'Lift' switch)
- WhaWha Vox V847
- Tuner Boss TU3

I really hope that through this information you can help me get this tone !
What could I test ? What are the right connections ? What would you do?

THanks a lot for your future answer !
(Sorry for my poor English...)

Whatever he said I'm sure I will agree.:D

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)

Re: Bonamassa Inspired Rig Demo

Welcome notguiom - You have some great equipment... A good match for Joe's gear, apart from the SG's.

The SG's probably won't give you as full a tone as a Les Paul, but certainly would be serviceable I should think...

I know Joe likes the EV12's in his cabs, so maybe on the home made cabs you might want to swap those out to see if you can get closer to his tone.

The Marshalls are pretty cool, I would think the Orange would be a little on the Voxy bright side - you might need a Dumble style amp if you want to do the whole 2 amp setup thing...

JBLP Gold Top #129 - redubbed "#1 in Oz"

Re: Bonamassa Inspired Rig Demo

I liked the neck pickup tones.

Did you dial back the vol control for the clean?

Ask me about my handwound Great Lakes Guitar Pickups
Since 2010, Bonamassa fans have taken advantage of my JB friend discount = my cost + shipping. cool

Re: Bonamassa Inspired Rig Demo

Hi !
Thanks for your answers !

NPB_EST.1979 > Yes i try to change the vol vol control for the clean but the tone there is no result.

Devan > I saw in an other Post on this forum that J.Bonamassa likes the EV12's but in France it's not very easy to find this kind of speaker... or it's very expensive !
I agree with you, i have only Gibson SG and not a Les Paul but i saw a video of J.Bonamassa with a fender stratocaster on Youtube and the tone is almost the same... so i think that with my gibson SG it's possible to have a good result... I hope

Do you think it's a good idea to put 2 differents Heads (Marshall 2210 and Orange Rocker 30) in the same Cabinet ?
OR what should I do in your opinion ?

I'm waiting for your help. In any case, THANKS a lot !
