Re: NCAA Basketball

So much for good’ole classic collage rivalries, let’s just rip apart the divisions every other year along with rivalries and programs in the process. College tuitions are at record highs while the economy is near record lows. So why not pay even more to have the teams travel across the country every weeks to play games, after all there not in collage to get an education anyway. I’M sure that all the fan’s and families will love to travel coast to coast to watch their teams and kids play. This will only profit the coaches and directors. Tuition will continue to rise and leagues continue to change to chase the money, forcing smaller programs will shutdown in the process.

It's all about the money.

Re: NCAA Basketball

That is a shocker Bill. Aztecs are rumored to go to the Big West in BB, while scheduling a game or two with Big East teams to complement the football move while sticking their toe in to sample the future. Who knows how it will shake out as they chase the tv bucks? Every AD in the country is maneuvering for increasing revenue as tuition slices diminish with the government's attack on alumni disposable cash flow. The tv deal the MWC made was a disaster for exposure as they ended up in cable boondocks. Not even coverage here for most. I can see why the good teams are running away.
Sad to see 'Bama was further gutted by team members' misbehavior. Tough luck Tres. Rocket still remains silent but his team is cruising. #1 Ky is sitting pretty atop the pile and looking formidable.
Big game here tomorrow as we meet the other top team in the MWC, UNM with a three way conference tie in the mix.

Re: NCAA Basketball

The sad thing is that the MWC was on its way to becoming a powerhouse conference with BYU, UT, SDSU, UNLV and NM and would have attracted more network coverage on its own. The MWC is still very tough even without BYU and UT. The MWC has attracted many of the country’s top recruits. We will have 3 teams playing in the NCAA tournament again this year and 1 making it to the elite 8 or better this year because our conference is so tough.

The NCAA should force universities to freeze tuitions, School leaders, coaches and athletic director’s salaries for three years when they decide to chance conferences, so the money earned will truly benefit the school.

Good win there Mike. I woke up from a nap to find the horrible news right before the game, 3 more top starters and scorers gone from the lineup due to violation of team rules. We are now running on fumes for backups. If Rodney Cooper had not scored 28 for the Tide it would have been a real blowout. I applaud Anthony Grant for putting his program and expectations of what the players should be and do before winning and losing. Bravo for him. Needless to say, we won't be attending the big dance. The only good news is that some of our younguns are going to get serious playing time.

Re: NCAA Basketball

I wanted to put $100 on that Ala-Fla game last night and chickened out, Florida -3 1/2 sounded really good with Ala at less than full strength. It was a winner as they won by 9. We played them a great first half even with too many turnovers, tied 26-26 and then melted down to start the second. Anthony has reinstated 2 of the players, but they are not the top scorers.
The horned frogs were shooting well and got it to overtime to take the Runnin Rebels. What happened Bill, did TCU just shoot lights out? That's what, 4 top fifteen going down in the last week. Miss State also lost, another good win for LSU.

Re: NCAA Basketball

That was a night of upsets. I'd attribute it to fatigue in the late season. The Rebels and Aztecs gave it their all in Vegas and I think UNLV ran out of gas since they opted to play the fast break game which is TCU's strength at home. Tonight SDSU vs. UNM for first in the WAC. Coverage on VS/CBSSN with tipoff at 7:15 Pacific. This is a consensus game for either a 4 seed if the Aztecs win or a 5 seed if they lose. It will be close. All three top teams in the WAC are expected to make the March seedings, with a couple of others contending for the NIT. Sad the WAC is folding because it has turned into a true power conference. I'll miss the fierce rivalry between the Aztecs and the rest of the good teams in the conference.

edit: bad night for the Aztecs. Tapley was in a fog and the team was never in it. sad

Re: NCAA Basketball

with all of the problems with the Alabama mens team, I have to give a holler for the UA womens team that beat #7 Kentucky last night. They were 1-11 in conference play and we did not see this coming at all. SEC may be really tough in football, but also is extremely competitive in womens BB. ROLL TIDE GALS !!!

Re: NCAA Basketball

Tough week out here for Bill and I. A peaking UNM is now the bad boy on the block. Aztecs had their two top scorers go down with ankle sprains and a serious lack of depth and road wear hurt. Three WAC teams now ranked! Who would have believed it?

Re: NCAA Basketball

The road has been ugly for the Rebels, and the remaining home games are not going to be any easier.  Lopez is still recovering for rolling his ankle and now The Big Sweed rolled his. It is great to have three teams in the top 25 representing the MWC again. I was hoping to stay a top 3 seed for the tournament in New Mexico, but that hope is gone. We will be playing some of the big guns early again this year, they better be ready for a fight from the MWC Teams. It’s going to be a good one.

Re: NCAA Basketball

tough on the road for many now Bill, I'm sure you saw UNM losing at Colorado St last night. It looked like they were the beast of the conference, but maybe that's only when at home. Mizzou goes down again as well, a happy Frank Martin. He is a scary looking man, I call him Frank Enstein. You do not want to get on his bad side, sometimes he looks like he will explode right there on the court.

UNM is super tough at home, but they beat us at our house so... The Pit is well known as an intimidating venue. High altitude is taking its toll out here on everyone as late season dead leg syndrome is setting in. LOL about Frank Martin!

Re: NCAA Basketball

CSU has been very tough at home. All of the MWC teams have been tough at home. The Rebels final conference game will be at CSU so it will be a great game to watch. I hope that the MWC will now have earned a 4th team in the tournament. Look for some major upsets by the MWC teams this year. It’s been awhile, we could see a Cinderella team win the tournament.

I'M about to head over to the T&M to watch the Rebels and lose my voice. A much need home win will do us good. Go REEEBELS!

Re: NCAA Basketball

The Rebels got the much needed win. It was a great turnout for a Wednesday night game, over 14,000 in attendance. Air Force is next. Air Force is always a tough matchup but we will have the home court advantage and a wild and loud Rebellion crowd to help our team.

Rick’s Aztecs also got a much needed win last night in overtime. There are no easy wins in our conference this year.

No kidding Bill! Heart in mouth time as the last shot missed for the Cowboys in regular time. The Aztecs are still struggling but got the W. A sellout again in the arena for them. Crunch time now!

Ain't talkin' bout UNLV or SDS, I'm talking bout my Hoosiers righting the ship and thumping Minny at home and dominating the team I feel might win it all next month tonight - Michigan State.  Big Red might snag a 3 seed if they stay on course.

I watched some highlights on the tube. It is funny how a few Joe fans have their fav teams in the thick of it. March is going to be fun. We've all got a dog in the fight Curby.

Re: NCAA Basketball

I saw a few highlights too Scott, they were hittin that 3 ball pretty well. I wish I had a dog in the fight Rick, I have a puppy. lol Alabama is projected as a 9 or 10 seed, if they win the last two and don't implode first game of the SEC tourney. I'm ready for it to start, it's a great time of year kinda like October.
