Topic: Slash AFD instead of jubilee?

Anyone tried one of these? Since joe and slash are both so fond of the silver jubilee and slash had his own sig model does the new AFD get in the jubilee ball park?

Hi
I am foutunate to have both and for me the Slash AFD is, the best way I can discribe it is harsher then then Jubilee. The tone is different but then again we all hear thnings differently. I will post some comparison audio tracks once I have my studio set up the way I want.

Re: Slash AFD instead of jubilee?

When I was amp shopping recently I tried the AFD and for some reason the treble was very pronounced and I couldn't dial it down so to me it didn't sound like a Jubilee.  Eventually I bought the YJM100 which is just a 100watt Plexi with bells & whistles.

Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.

Yes that is exactly what I found. I also have  a YJM100 which is a very cool amp.

Here is an in depth review of the YJM100.

Ron,
What type of cabinet and speakers are you playing through?  Do you have any particular settings you really like?  And if you haven't done so, play a Tele through the YJM.  My 52 reissue screams!

Hi
I run it through Catagory 5 with evm12l's. I do not own a tele I am a LP guy mainly and have some Strats and PRS. For settings it depends on my mood. As you know it has a build in power attentuation which works really well. Running this blended with my Twinkleland give some really awesome sounds. What do you run yours through and what settings do you like?
Cheers Ron

Ron: It's just Dave being...well, Dave.   wink

Near as I can tell, all those YJM100 heads popping up on eBay right now are brand new, factory-sealed units being sold by dealers who've figured out that the interwebs are a good way to increase business (they're all "Buy It Now" priced, not auctions at all)...

Re: Slash AFD instead of jubilee?

Dave,
It appears all the YJM's on ebay are new and the US market only received them in October.

Ron,
I couldn't afford a new amp and cabinet at the same time so right now I'm playing the YJM through a inexpensive Marshall MC212 (MDF boards) which has two Celestion 65watt (no name) speakers.  I like the Mills Acoustics cabinet but I just can't decide on speakers.  At first I was going to go with Celestion Vintage 30's and Classic Lead 80's in a 4x12.  I gave the EVM12l's some thought but I would be looking at a cabinet that weighs 150lbs.  I am giving some thought to a 2x12 cabinet with EVM12l's which wouldn't weigh too much and I still have 400watts to play with.  Since I play classic rock Greenbacks are an option in a 4x12 but at 80 to 100 watts I can't crank the amp.

My Billy Gibbons Settings:
Bass @ 1 o'clock
Mid @ 10 o'clock
Treb @ 9 o'clock
Pres @ 2 o'clock
Vol 1 @ 4 o'clock
Vol 2 @ 2 o'clock

My Eric Johnson Settings:
Bass @ 12 o'clock
Mid @ 12 o'clock
Treb @ 9 o'clock
Pres @ 8 o'clock
Vol 1 @ 4 o'clock
Vol 2 @ 2 o'clock

My Jimmy Page (Tele) Settings:
Bass @ 9 o'clock
Mid @ 3 o'clock
Treb @ 5 o'clock
Pres @ 10 o'clock
Vol 1 @ 3 o'clock
Vol 2 @ 1 o'clock

Thanks for the settings. Yes you are so right very heavy but as you know EVs are heavy. The thing with them is they do not add any tone what you get out is what the amp is putting out. I also have Catagory 5 2x12 EVM12l's they sound amazing. Contact Don Ritter at Catagory 5 tell him I told you to email him. Check there web site his en=mail address is there. Cheers Ron
