Re: Any Dog Show Fans?

A co-worker that lives in the U.P. of Michigan has a Newfie and it is a wonderful dog.  I've been to his house a few times (in the summer) and the dog loves to play outside and in the water.  But holy hades is he big.  175 lbs easily.  solid black.  Awesome creature.

Re: Any Dog Show Fans?

Rick,
I would agree 100% Yorkies are one of the most fearless breeds I have ever encountered.  My wife and I enjoy going to the Rodeo and I would have had such a big laugh if I saw a Yorkie jump out of a clown costume and chase down a bull.  That is a great story.  Very nice job someone did on that website for the Parti Club, I wish the German Shepherd Clubs were that thorough.

Guido,
I love Newfies, my wife had a couple come to her beginners class several years ago with their first Newfie and now they have three (two black and one brown) and all three have been through her beginners and intermediate courses.  All three think the world of my wife and when they see here at a AKC event all three rush to her to be the first one petted.  It's a sight to see when they crash into her legs.

Here are some links to our American Gangster movie stars.  The first two are our first dog Indy who was in most of the movie and the second is our Annie who was in the scene where the crooked detectives shoot the dog in the kennel.

Re: Any Dog Show Fans?

Nice shots and mementos of your dogs Indy. Newfies are fab dogs as well, providing one has the room for them.

Here's a funny story about our Yorkies. (Not so funny for the victim.) At the height of our kennel's activity, we had one stud dog and 6 breeding bitches. This became a pack and pack heirarchy and behavior was apparant. We had the alpha #@$@#, the alpha dog and so on down the pecking order.

One time the Utility meter reader came to check our use on the electric meter which was in our back yard. He let himself in via a side gate and it happened the back door was open for the dogs to run in and out. We came home several hours later and heard a cry for help and a ruckus in the back yard. The dogs had surrounded him and had him cornered. If he tried to move, the dog would rush him and when he turned to face the dog, the bitches would run up and nip his ankles trying for a hamstring bite. Just like a pack of wolves! Rather hilarious for a group of 5 pound toys to hold a man at bay. Ever since we have had to read our own meter and a "dangerous dog" warning has to be posted. lol On a better note, they also fearlessly attacked and ran off a prowler who had entered and was attempting an assault on our teenaged daughter. She luckily escaped without harm.

Re: Any Dog Show Fans?

Rick,
Another funny story and it doesn't surprise me a bit being they were Yorkies, that's why they call them Terriers.

Last summer we acquired another Shepherd #@$@# for breeding, actually we co-own the dog with the breeder because she was getting a little too old to have as many dogs as she now has in her kennel.  This is our first exposure to breeding, did you ever discover any books on the subject that you could recommend?

Here is a picture of Cado with my wife at a Sieger Show a few months ago and she was just 9 months old.

Gorgeous, handsome dogs you have there Indy!

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Thank you so much but much if not all the credit belongs to my wife, I'm just the husband.

Re: Any Dog Show Fans?

Well... It's dog show time again.  Last night the first four groups strutted their stuff.  The only group winner that I like is the American Foxhound from the Hound group.  Didn't care at all for the winner's of the Toy, Non-Sporting  or Herding Groups.  Looking foward to the Sporting and Working groups tonight.  Terriers just yap too much for me.  Enjoy... 7 pm central on USA Network

Re: Any Dog Show Fans?

Watched and loved. The young Sheepdog was pretty cool as he beat out many champions in his first run.  There's some local interest since the BOS judge is from here. It is a once-in-a-lifetime selection. I just like to see all the breeds on display. Your complaint about terriers is off the mark. Ill trained ones can be yappers but we've bred Yorkies and found it to be untrue. Now Chihuahuas, that is another story.

Just as long as those mutts (don't tell me controlled genetic engineering is any different than unabated uncontrolled natural abductions!) don't join the pony shows... yikes

AY YUP! Rodeo is more my kind of exciting show.  My oldest Sis & I have a thing for bull riders.  Let those beasts spend the night in a New York City Hotel!!! tongue lol

Don't get me wrong.  I am down with the dogs.  They are WAY down with me.  Just we have to meet on unequal terms and things are cool! cool
