Topic: Gibson Les Paul JB aged

I have been wondering for a while how often you should replace the nylon saddles on E, B and G string on the guitar. They have been worn, so the strings sound like "sour" although they are new, instead of the strings resting on the saddle, it is trapped in a crack in the saddle. I hope someone who experienced the same thing can give an advice, maybe Joe himself can say what he does on his own guitars.

Hi Oliver
Back a while ago I had the same issue and had to have them replaced. The hardest part at the time was actually getting the nylon saddles. Not sure why I had such a hard time but I ordered a dozen after the hassle trying to fine them. What I did find is that the saddles came in unnotched. So I brought them to my tech and he carved them to fit my current string gage. The are excellent now. After all said and done I think forming the nylon saddles to fit to my gage strings (11-48) made a big difference.
