Topic: Album Cover Art... What's your favorite from the past?

I like CD's because of their ease of use and size, but I really miss some of the art that was displayed on our favorite albums. With the advent of the Ipod's and other media storage devices and their ability to download music directly from the Internet I'm afraid that the next generation won't even know what an album is. The younger generation doesn't know what it missed not having the album covers to look at while the music played on. I have a lot of albums so picking out a favorite is hard. I'm going to put down a couple of names to get things going. I like King Crimson's first album, and Uriah Heep's Demons and Wizards covers.

Albums are so cool not only because of the covers but the sound.  But I guess one of my all time favorites is Moody Blues, Question of Balance.  There was so much going on that cover.  I could look at it and always see something new.  The gatefold albums were always cool because it folded out and have twice as much to show.
Stevie Ray's picture disk, Couldn't Stand the Weather is my favorite picture disk.

Music is good for the Soul...

you say that like mixing acid and music is bad.  the results can be very very good or bad, just like music with no acid.

Paul,
I'll give this a bit more thought, but I gotta tell you: When I saw this topic, King Crimson's "The Court of the Crimson King" was the first one that shot into my mind. Awesome cover and maybe even better artwork on the inside.

Re: Album Cover Art... What's your favorite from the past?

Bill,
I bought Captain Beyond with the 3D picture glued on the front of the album cover for $1.50 at Barkers discount store in Port Arthur. The later versions of the album only had a picture on the front of the album cover, not the 3D image.

Re: Album Cover Art... What's your favorite from the past?

Never said it is bad! Just that they are objective about white, blank album covers which doesn't contain a hidden, cryptic concept or message by the blank canvas!

Rock On & Keep the Faith,
Rocket
p.s.-but there are some absolutely terrible examples of both not mixing well in either case...
