Re: Who do you base your tone on?

Jimmy Page "HTWWW".

I base my tone around a lot of the Texas guys. Eric Johnson, SRV, David Grissom...then there's always Jimi Hendrix who has always been a tone giant! As far as my British influences I emulate the tones of Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, and Keith Richards. Other notables are of course Joe and guys like Gary Moore. My philosophy on tone is a Stratocaster, 335, or Les Paul into:

100w Marshall Superlead - set up for that Cream Clapton tone, really warm and thick. An Echoplex and Tube Driver pushes it into EJ territory.

50w Marshall Lead 1987- set up for a Jimi Hendrix type sound, brighter and more overdriven. A Fuzzface pushes it into EJ/Hendrix/Clapton/Beck territory. A Ts808 gets that Gary Moore/Bonamassa tone happening.

Pair of Fenders (Twin and Super Reverbs)- with some help from a TC Chorus and Echoplex/DMM I get into EJ territory easily. Turn the chorus off and I can cop some cleaner Hendrix textures.

'67 and '74 Fender Twin Reverbs, '74 Marshall 1987 lead mkII, Metro Superlead 100. Pedals from TC Electronic, Ibanez, Dunlop, BK Butler, Electro-Harmonix, Fulltone, Maestro/Gibson, Loopmaster switching, VoodooLab, Boss. Gibson and Fender guitars, Dimarzio pickups.
