Reverb pedals (Page 1 of 2)

Tons out there... poke around on youtube and harmony central. Here's a start anyway:

Main Stream: MXR Carbon Copy, Electro-Harmonix Cathedral

Boutique Analog: Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay, Analogman ARDX20 Delay or a Van Amps Reverb pedals

Digital: Strymon El Capistan Delay or Reverberator... of course Line 6 too

Hard Core: Fulltone Tape Echo or Dr Z Z-Verb

havoc is right, there are a crap load of choices.  Its to the point where most of them are so similar, its not worth splitting hairs over..  Boss, Digitech are pretty good and wont empty your bank account.  If you want to go boutique, have at it..but most big names in the industry seem to have the same old standbys on there boards like boss, mxr etc..  Line 6 M9 is pretty good, and has a decent selection of delays and reverbs that are VERY useable.  I have one and really like it. -Seth

I have boss RV-5. Love it. I've had it a while but if I had to get a reverb pedal I'd probably get the hardwire RV-7. You could look into the line 6 M5. I have one and it is my swiss army knife pedal. Not so clever on my marshall numbers so not sure if that amp has a FX loop. You could run the M5 upfront or in the loop. Get 2 patches next to each other one with delay and one with reverb. Use reverb for general play and switch the patch to get delay for soloing. It also gives you 1 of just about every pedal you could want. I believe they have just dropped the price. My M5 is a octave pedal for my neil young pedal board and a phaser, rotary, tremolo, delay, octave fuzz, tube driver the list goes on. A great pedal that doesn;t take up too much room.

I've got the T-Rex Room-Mate...nice Reverb... tube based.  Apparently the Room-Mate II is better but I have never tried it.

TC Hall of Fame is a really great reverb. It doesn't take up much room on the board and it has the Toneprints feature which is one of the coolest things I've seen in any pedal.

I've just grabbed a Malekko Chicklet...I will let you know how it goes in a few days!

If you watch some of the rig rundown videos, when he isolates the dumble style amps, (one that has reverb) it seems to be pretty well soaked in reverb.. And sort of bright, but not overkill.

My suggestion is if you're only using one amp, and going for a smooth, warmer tone I'd keep it dark sounding.  Not familiar with the boss reverbs, but if it has a tone control, roll off some of the high and keep the mix/output volume low but the decay long.  It won't jump out when you play a note or chord but with a longer decay, it will add some girth to your sound.  Then if you're using a delay, it won't compete in a bad way.  If you're going stereo, then do it like I said above.  Some old Black Sabbath recordings..and others too: if you pan your speaker to one side you hear a wash of reverb on the guitar to the point where its basically an entirely wet reverb signal.  Then the other side is dry.  Mixed together it sounds huge.
