Topic: are some burstbuckers potted?

Hello all,

Was wondering if you could help me answer a question.

Are stock burstbuckers (ones that come in guitars) potted? and one you buy a la carte unpotted?

I just heard a story about someone buying a set of burstbuckers because he liked the ones that came in another guitar and NOT liking the ones he bought. I thought this might be why, but I'm not sure if this is the case.

Im not sure but I think the pickups that you buy seperately are wax potted while the ones that come in a guitar might or might not be wax potted, depends on the guitar.

Yup. The Burstbuckers in Joe's Signature Epi Goldtop, for instance, are not potted...

I believe that all Burstbuckers are not wax potted:

The burstbucker 3 in my dads Traditional Pro is potted.  And I've heard most Gibson USA's sport potted Burstbuckers, but I know for a fact the Custom Shop Reissues are all None Potted.  I'm not sure if you bought a set if they would be potted or not but the burst bucker pro's are potted for sure.

BTW the BB3 in that traditional pro has a 4 conductor lead wire as well.  That differs from the link as well, but thats a pretty old page and you know how products can be subject to change without notice.

Potted in most guitars from factory.
Unpotted aftermarket.
