So I said screw it... I'm buying vinyl records again...

Here are the ones I got:

John Mayall BluesBreakers w/Eric Clapton "Beano"
BB King Live at the Regal
Jimi Hendrix Axis Bold As Love
Jimi Hendrix Are You Experienced?
Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon
Pink Floyd Wish You Were here
The Ventures (bought two of them forgot what ones)
Jeff Beck Truth
Derek and the Dominoes Layla and assorted Love Songs
Joe Bonamassa Ballad of John Henry
Metallic Ride The Lightning
Kiss Love Gun
Kiss Destroyer
Foo Fighters

I have a ton of other vinyl, but I got this to recharge my collection...
can you suggest me some others?

Re: Getting back into vinyl

I love my vinyl.  Look for some of the SRV ones, or Led Zeppelin or Tom Petty.  I still buy a vinyl copy of stuff I like that is new.  We are fortunate that a local store (Newbury Comics) and another that is not local but not too far for me (Bull Moose Music) have great vinyl sections, both new and used.  One of my favorites is DTB's Already Free album.  There is one song on the CD that sounds like scratchy vinyl, but on the vinyl version there are no scratches (except the ones you make yourself).  We are lucky in that quite a bit of our older stuff is still playable.  Never gave up on the stuff.

"There's a lot of people that are in so much of a hurry to be, I guess, to be famous or that they don't want to take the time to learn to play and do all that. They'd rather just knock it down off a computer and maybe get on a game show and get famous..That's fine if that's what you want to do.
"We're more old school than that. We like creating the sounds."  - Tom Petty

Re: Getting back into vinyl

I've broken out the vinyl a few times over the years and wonder why anyone misses it. 4 - 5 song's worth of clicks and pops that needs to be flipped every 17 - 22 minutes. I dont miss it at all.

Gibson 60th Anniversary 1959 Les Paul Reissue, Gibson LP Standard Faded CSB, Gibson Gary Moore LP Standard, Epi Joe Bonamassa GT LP, Epi Zakk Wylde LP, Dean Michael Schenker Flying V, Jackson Randy Rhoads V, ESP/LTD George Lynch Kamikaze, EVH Striped Series R/B/W, Fender/Squire John 5 Telecaster, Fender Joe Strummer Relic Telecaster

Re: Getting back into vinyl

I love the size of the media. I love the covers. It's like artwork. I good quality turntable and a taken care of vinyl record is essential and the sound is amazing. I think it's great to listen to B-sides and such. With mp3 its too easy to skip hidden gems.

I plan on covering a wall with records once I move into my house this summer. So even if I stop playing them, they will still be visible.

I have put some of my old album covers in the frames made to hang them.Have about a dozen up.I agree on the art.I love album art.I see some newer cds cover that are cool too.I love the Dust Bowl Cover,Sloe Gin too.
As far as the sound of vinyl,It is good.I agree with dknight on the scratches and pops.I listen to most of my music in the car, since O am driving around most of the day for work,so buying vinyl doesn't make a lot of sense for me.I do see if well taken care of its a cool thing though.

Re: Getting back into vinyl

Tonight I have played Led Zeppelin 4 and Electric Ladyland. Always try to play vinyl at least once a week. Because they are numbered like 1 - 1,500,  i was thainking of asking my wife to shout a number and play that one. Would save me deliberating................

Re: Getting back into vinyl

We try and have vinyl parties once or twice a year-i know, not many!-where i haul down mine from the attic, leave dotted around the house in groups of ten or so,a classic album on each stair up to the bathroom, then just take each person's selection and play one side all the way through-LFNIP being a TAD much for SOME people! (I KNOW! I KNOW!) I also ask each person coming to bring some of their own to play, and guarentee to play at least one of what they bring....even Demis Roussos or Des O'Connor if brought, takes all sorts! Everyone has a tale or two to tell about a particular album, often relating to friends or loved ones passed away, places and events, and it makes for a great evening.Tidying all 200 lps away-alphabetically,of course!-and storing back up 3 flights of stairs up to the attic takes most of the next day (usually with a hangover!) but all agree it's well worth it.

Come on you Blades!

I like that party I wonder if I could get some hommies interested in that.I bet there would be some suprises if people bring in their own for sure.I'm picturing Barry Manilow and Judist Preist being played back to back lol

I wish I had Gary but there's always something going on - when I took early retirement I really thought I would have loadsa time to catch up with my collection but I'm working on it.
