Re: NAD!

Only electrolytic caps and tubes go bad with age. Caps tend to dry and lose their value and tubes can get gassy. Maybe that is why you had the raunchy sound. Congrats on the great buy!

Re: NAD!

Great score!  Give the amp some time....talk to it, caress it, tell it a bedtime story....and it will come around eventually :-)

Re: NAD!

Just got it back. The tech said it sounds awesome. Now I must go play it... I need to find out...talk to it...etc

Will report back soon - vid clips to follow if anyone is interested.

Wish me luck

Update: Just got a call from my amp tech wanting to verify the age of my Slash head. I told him 1996 and he said it looked like it just came out of the box. He said if it had 5 hours total on it he would be shocked, and that  it is beyond mint - he was in disbelief actually. He reckons the amp was purchased by a collector and NEVER played. Not really a good thing though as he said it's better to turn them on occasionally to put power through the caps and everything. He is getting back to me when it's done with the tube and bias, etc.

Shoud l I be worried? Do components "go bad" from misuse?

congrats!  hold onto that one!
