Re: Classic Rock : Dirt In My Pocket

Like Jane asked in the other thread..Is this acoustic or "plugged" in..somebody please give us a review...Thanks, Cathy

Re: Classic Rock : Dirt In My Pocket

I went to my local F.Y.E. to pick up a copy yesterday, unfortunetly they still had this months issue and are expecting the July issue soon. But there is a review of Joes Sheppard's Bush gig in the June issue. There's also a review of the re-issued " A New Day Yesterday" which gives it a 7 out of 10........JBrules / Paul

It's got both acoustic and electric parts. The Led Zeppelin influence (Physical Graffitti era) is evident, and it even has some Eastern flavor in places. It's difficult to classify. It rocks and it's heavy, but it has acoustic passages that really work...a sort of point-counterpoint thing. The acoustic parts do an excellent job in building the listener's anticipation for the parts where it cuts loose, but they still hold your attention in their own right.

There's a lot going on in this song. There isn't a blistering lead break, and the song doesn't need it. In fact I might go so far as to say that a stereo-typical lead break might have taken away from the overall product. It's well produced, and Joe's vocals cut through nicely too. Not so "Breathy" here, they've regained some of the edge that I liked on his earlier recordings, but while retaining his later-found smoothness and control...

It's a great song. It's strong and fresh, but with a subtle tip of the hat to the past...

Now that's what I was talking about! Thanks Stu. Written like a pro! Sounds very interesting and I like the feel. Can't wait....Cathy

Re: Classic Rock : Dirt In My Pocket

Stu, nice job of whetting our appetitite!  Like the point, has some of the edge like the earlier material.  Something we have talked about before...

Re: Classic Rock : Dirt In My Pocket

I am curious to know if anyone has found this particular issure of the magazine yet at their local Barnes and Noble or Borders booksellers? I have been checking several of these stores locally and they either tell me that they have not yet received them or that they have sold out of them. I am still finding the June issue at several of the stores.

Hey Rhonda, I checked into this too and ordered this online from the UK.  There is a place online that I placed a single issue order with to get shipped over to the US.
This is the link to order the summer issue with Morrison on the cover:

Re: Classic Rock : Dirt In My Pocket

Got a copy of Classic Rock on Friday with the free CD and have been playing Dirt in my Pocket ever since and loving it!  Stu Craig hit the nail on the head with his excellent review ... it's definitely Zeppelinesque with a bit of The River.  Now I really can't wait to hear Sloe Gin.  Seems to me that this new album is gonna be Joe's biggest to date, what with all the media interest.

PS  The rest of the free CD ain't bad either!

Hi LynB, what else is on the CD?   I agree with you too, that it is going to be Joe's biggest CD to date!

There's some great stuff on there, most of the artists I haven't heard of before so will be checking some out.  So ... in no particular order (and from memory) besides Joe there are tracks from Aynsley Lister, Gary Moore, John Mayall, Scott McKeon, Ian Parker, Peter Green, Marc Ford, Pig Iron ... oh and the great Paul Rodgers (just bought his Live in Glasgow CD and am looking forward to listening to that).

Re: Classic Rock : Dirt In My Pocket

You guys and gals are lucky , here in the states the magazine comes out a little later . They still have the July issue , but I keep checking back . Soon I hope !!  But yes Michael "Classic Rock" is an excellent read. I love reading about all the bands that I grew up with. Great articles and pitures ,and I've seen a revue of 1 of Joes gigs (Sheppards Bush)and the re-issued Blues Deluxe  Cd in past issues . I highly recomend this mag.          Paul  /  JBrules

Re: Classic Rock : Dirt In My Pocket

I have been checking for the past couple of weeks at my local Barnes & Noble and Borders Books for the magazine. It appears that the Jim Morrison on the cover edition is a "summer" edition. Barnes and Noble said they got 3 copies and they went quick and do not anticipate getting anymore. sad The July issue is out now and I am thinking that I am out of luck on this one. I am heading to Nashville, TN Sunday evening for a Photoshop workshop on Monday, maybe I will have better luck finding it there. If not, would someone be willing to share an mp3 of it?
