Topic: Favorite Songs w/Guitar solos

I was on a 757 on american today and I listened to one channel, all songs with what they thought were great guitar solos...it was pretty good.  I bet we could come up with a better list..what would you put in yours? :-)  Here's what they had:
Freebird,by Ly. Sk.
All along the Watchtower, hendrix
Crossroads, EC
Stairway to Heaven, LZ
25 or 6 to 4, chicago
the thrill is gone, BB
Reeling in the Years, S. Dan
You Really Got Me, V. Halen
Crazy Train, Ozzy O
Highway Star, Deep Purple
Bohemian Rhapsody, Queen
November Rain, Guns n roses
Aqualung, J Tull
Hotel CA, Eagles
Sultans of Swing, Dire St.
Jessica, Allman Bros
Comfortably Numb, P. Floyd
Texas Flood, SRV
Stranglehold, Nugent
Europa, Santana

something to think about. :-)  Only 1 song allowed per artist ....obviously Joe needs to be on the list...but which song?  I would have to say Blues Deluxe..what about you? Who else?  ZZ?  Frampton?

Reconsider Baby? Probably one of the most powerful solos Joe has ever done . . .

Re: Favorite Songs w/Guitar solos

Hey y'all thanks for the input, i'm listening to the songs on your lists, so thanks for the input...i haven't heard some of these, so this is awesome!

Vette335, man some of yours were hard to hunt down.  :-)  Specially many of the first 10....still making my way thru.

Have u seen these?

Swloessy, i was listening to Reconsider Baby today and i might have to break my rule and allow 2 from 1 artist...(along with Blues Deluxe)...hard to pick. I see you have the same problem. :-)

I'll be back with MY list...takes me longer than y'all.  :-)

Re: Favorite Songs w/Guitar solos

haha sorry some of mine are a bit obscure, but i promise they are worth it. lot of blues, jazz and fusion so keep your mind and ears open, its all great guitar.  If you can't find specific solos, just check out they players...they are all top notch!

Re: Favorite Songs w/Guitar solos

I'm in agreement with a bunch noted here and I'll add a few:
In Memory of Elizabeth Reed (ABB)
Reconsider Baby (Joe)
Fantasia Suite for Two Guitars (Al DiMeola)
Red House (Hendrix)

Re: Favorite Songs w/Guitar solos

If Steely Dan's Reelin' In The Years wasn't on that original list I'd have made sure to add it, That lead still knocks me out. Ironically that smokin' lead was played by Elliot Randall a guest musician on the album. Some others on my list: Let It Rain     Clapton

                                   Gator Country     Molly Hatchet

I Know A Little     Skynyrd (Steve Gaines)

Everything Is Broken    Kenny Wayne Sheperd

                                   Callin' Me Back      Bloodline

                                   Lifetime Thing       Robben Ford

If you ever listen to this last one by Robben I think it's pretty obvious why Joe lists him as one of his influences.

                                                                                             Think Green,

                                                                                             J Dawg

Statesboro Blues                ABB
Dark End of the Street        Ry Cooder

Hotel CA (LP Version)         Eagles
Lifetime Thing                    Robben Ford
Comfortably Numb             Pink Floyd
For the Love of God            Steve Vai
Cause We Ended as Lovers  Jeff Beck
Blues Deluxe                     Joe
See What Tomorrow Brings Arc Angels
Do you Feel Like We Do       Frampton

Re: Favorite Songs w/Guitar solos

I just started to read your list while I'm also watching the Giants/Yankees game, I see your first pick and guess what starts blasting in the background for a Nissan commercial, Stranglehold!!!! The Nuge works in weird ways. I would have loved to have been in Vegas the night Ted & Joe jammed.

                                                                                                            Think Green,

                                                                                                            J Dawg

That whole CD, Keep On Runnin', by Robben Ford is outstanding.

Re: Favorite Songs w/Guitar solos

mchoate, I hadn't realized you posted those videos.  The Soulive video is the exact solo I was reffering to.  The Pat Martino video is cool, especially with John Scofield and Joey Defrancesco, but if you really wanna hear Martino rip on his axe, check out the 70's recording from the album "Live!".

I'm guessing we mean favorite solos in favorite songs?! Too many for me, so I'll go the obscure / gotta be different route...How about nuthing fancy, but short, sweet, and succint. "The Crawl" solo by the Fabulous Thunderbirds Jimmie Vaughn...

I think I posted this link before, but one of my favorite guitar solos is Andy Timmon's "Cry For You" - you can check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaVVZYOvMFY
