Topic: Your Favorites For 2011

Notice I said your favorites.....
I'll write more later to flesh this out (I have to go to work in a few), but I'll start it off with Sean Chambers recent live album.  Sean reminds me a lot of where Joe was and on his new album he really leaves nothing in the tank at the end.

My top 3 for 2011 (note that I still haven't got a copy of Virgil & The Accelerators so I can't comment on that one):

Chantel McGregor "Like No Other"
Mr. Big "What If..."
Stoney Curtis Band "Cosmic Conn3ction"

Major Tom to ground control...

Re: Your Favorites For 2011

If you have ordered a copy, let me know where from and I will get on it for you, we did have problem with amazon selling out but that should be sorted now.

Re: Your Favorites For 2011

Always a tricky one to call at this time of year as I just KNOW Santa's gonna be bringing me a few more 2011 releases for consideration. That's if he's read my letter of course smile
I'd usually give a top 5 for the year (in no particular order - that's too hard) so in anticipation of another blockbuster in Santa's sack I'll give four now:

Trampled Under Foot - Wrong Side of the Blues
Virgil & the Accelerators - The Radium
Joe Bonamassa - Dust Bowl
Kenny Wayne Shepherd - How I Go

Ian

Please be in no doubt that this is the REAL ME! Beware imposters........................

Re: Your Favorites For 2011

Here's 5 from me:

Beth & Joe- Can't get enough of this one
Sean Chambers Live - Thanks to whoever recommended this. Love it!
Dust Bowl - 'Nuff' said
Chickenfoot III - Love driving to this one
Leslie West/Unusual Suspects - Great tunes and it's got Joe too.

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Re: Your Favorites For 2011

not sure that 2011 has been a great year for music in general as more insipid pop fills the airwaves and the quest for true music is becoming more difficult. Although in saying that there were a few greats.

Joe and Beth "Don't Explain" was for me Joe's album of the year; such a wonderful blend of tone both vocally and of course from Joe, this is a classic.

Warren Haynes "Man In Motion", - some very well written and performed songs on this.

Dream Theater  "a dramatic turn of events" - wall of sound!!

Cee Lo Green "The Lady Killer" - wonderful voice.

Smith & Burrows "Funny looking Angels", - the music appreciators Christmas album. Try this: http://youtu.be/uGrwGrsFdYY

My YouTube channel with plenty of my Joe's videos dating from 2009 inc his first Hammersmith Odeon ones:

Re: Your Favorites For 2011

Hard to believe Christmas is only a few days away.  The only album I've asked for my stocking this year is Virgil's new one and two dear mates here are answering my wish.
For the first time in my life there won't be a tree in the house, but I am really feeling the spirit of Jesus's birthday.  Hugs are great presents to get and give..........geez, I done forgot this is a 2011 top album thread....
This wasn't a particularly great year for music, but there were some highlights besides Sean Chambers' live album.  Others I liked were:

Warren Haynes - Man In Motion.  I think this is Haynes' finest record to date.

Midnight River Choir - Welcome to Delirium.  I've been playing this album quite often and like the band's style of country rock.

Stoney LaRue - Velvet.  First album of new material in seven years and Stoney doesn't disappoint.  My favorite country singer.

King King - Take My Hand.  Alan Nimmo is one of the UK's best kept secrets.  TMH is one fine album.

JJ Grey and Mofro - Brighter Days.  Definitely THE live and best album of the year.  Like a fine wine JJ just gets better and better.  This type album is the reason I get up in the morning.  Modern music is in good hands with this dude.

Your Welcome.

Re: Your Favorites For 2011

One more: "2120 S. Michigan Ave." George Thorogood with Jim Suyler. Loving' it the more I play it.

Re: Your Favorites For 2011

I've been enjoying Steven Wilson "Grace for Drowning" lately.  My other favorites for the year (in no particular order) are Beth & Joe "Don't Explain",  BCC 2 ,Joe's "Dust Bowl",  Leslie West "Unusual Suspects",  Johnny Winters  "Roots".

Hmmm, I guess they are in a particular order after all.  Dust Bowl would have ranked higher but there's a song or two that I skip regularly.

Re: Your Favorites For 2011

Joe "Dust Bowl"
Warren Haynes " Man In Motion"
Rolling Stones "Live in Texas 78"
Leslie West "Unusual Suspects"

Re: Your Favorites For 2011

...if I had to pick one album track ...would have to be Slow Train ...masterpiece of a riff by Numero' and some fine engineering! ...Midnight in Harlem would be on the list! ...a couple of Chantel's tracks i find blissful! ...Radium is such an impressive first album from The Boys! ...Henrik!... Memory of Your Love is on there though preferred 'Recorded' as a whole album ...my least fav' for the year was Unusual Suspects ...i'd be honest and say if Joe weren't on it i would not bother playing it again ....but i was never a big fan in the first place to be fair! hmm

Re: Your Favorites For 2011

Forgot to include Robbie Robertson's How To Become Clairvoyant.  Sometimes I think this is the one.  RR has a stellar supporting cast in Eric Clapton, Robert Randolph, Steve Windwood and rockers Trent Reznor and Tom Morello.
"Straight Down the Line" with Randolph flat puts me in a great mood and Clapton hasn't sounded this good in a long time.
