Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Thanks for draggin' this topic outta bed Shreddy, never to early to start talkin' baseball. Rick has got to be pleased with that deal the Pads pulled off with Cincy yesterday unloading Latos for Volquez and three other players. Latos let the Giants get inside his head when they beat him to win the West on the last day of the season in 2010. This past season he was signing baseballs for people @ AT&T with his name n number and I hate SF. Needless to say he didn't fair so well against the Gigantes last season, all the best to him in the Queen City.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Yes, spring training is just around the corner so why not? I awoke to the banner headline of  the trade. Mixed emotions on this one. Latos was erratically brilliant and could end up as their ace if they figure out how to coach him. His mental game is the key. We get a vet starter  with baggage coming off TJ surgery and a drug issue with some good prospects tossed in. Can our great staff get him working again? The Yankees have a tough road ahead with the Angels now packed to the brim with threats. Glad to see the monster slugger over on the other side this year. He owned us.

I'm going to make my first prediction for 2012....."Phat Albert Pujols" will win the triple crown in the American League!!!!.....My Yankees are sleeping, they couldnt ponie up more than 51 million for the rights to bid on Yu Darvish (whatever his name is)......oh wait a minute I remember the last time they went and got "the Japanese Nolan Ryan of Japan", that would be Hidecki Irabu....."Van Smack" shortened his name to a member of the male anatomy....get it..."a member" lol

Shreddy,

I hope I am wrong, but, I don't think Albert will be as good with the Angels as he was with the Cardinals, his mojo is in STL!!! Another 4 weeks and then we have our Winter Warm-ups!  Adam Wainwright returning and Carlos Beltran, Berkman, Molina, Freese, Craig..... It's gonna be a great year!

You guys signed Beltran, good luck, that warm climate will help him I believe. My friend Tim who grew up in Anaheim says Albert will struggle, the ball doesnt carry all that well.

a very sad start to the new year for the Atlanta Braves, Jeff Porter has been one of the mainstays in the clubhouse for many years now. You just never know and it's hard to understand sometimes, one minute you are on your way to a festive bowl game looking forward to a good time, and then you are at the hospital saying goodbye to a loved one. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jeff and his family, RIP Kathy.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Tres,

Your post stopped me in my tracks, this is VERY SAD and so unnecessary, so sorry to hear this.  Just a real shame for all the loved ones involved.

I've been driving since I was 17, I'm now 55. I had the most bizarre experience right before Thanksgiving.  I was in the fast lane of a 2 lane, narrow high-speed and dangerous expressway in Philly, I-76, the Schuykill Expressway.  Out of nowhere, I looked in my rear-view mirror and a car was so close to my bumper, I couldn't even see his headlights.  I thought he was trying to kill me, he had road rage, I was going to die...I tried to switch lanes, but couldn't get in and my instinct was to step on the gas to get distance between us. Then the flashers went on and I saw it was a cop pulling me over. The road is so narrow and dangerous, the cop knocked on my passenger window, I jumped a foot high and was shaking.  He was yelling at me for not moving over, he wanted the guy 2 cars in front of me, I caused him to loose him!!  He said I should have taken my foot off the gas, I would have been able to move then. (when I got home, hubby said the same thing, instinct had me doing the opposite) He was furious and pissed at me, took my drivers liscense and went back to his car for 10 minutes. Another cop car was behind him for back-up. I was kinda' frozen, and really shaken up, was by myself, didn't even call anybody.  When he came back he gave me my license, no ticket or anything, the cop made a jerky remark like you may drive like this in Jersey but we don't drive like this in Pennsylvania, you should have moved over. I told him I thought he was trying to kill me by riding my arse..he just kinda' looked at me and turned and left!! When I was sitting there I was wondering what he could give me a ticket for? And when he checked me out, he couldn't even find anything on my driving record, I haven't had a moving violation since I was 17. I'm an excellent driver and am always looking in my mirrors... the only thing I maybe do is step on the gas a little heavy sometimes, I can't stand slow drivers in the fast lane either... wink

What I learned:
I should have put my right turn signal on to show I was trying to move over, whether it was a bad driver or a cop behind me, the person in the other vehicle would have been less angry, maybe. You can't mess with road rage, you can get killed. (there was no room for me to move over-it was really dangerous and the guy in front of me was probably stepping on the gas because I was creeping up on him)

I should have got that cop's name & badge number, I feel like someday in the future I'll read or see something on the news about a high speed chase accident.  The cop was a hot head and displayed dangerous behavior.

Back to baseball players etc. I'm a big Roy Halladay fan.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Sure enough Angela, some of them are way over the top in their pursuits. So glad you weren't injured or ticketed. But why pull you over if you didn't do anything wrong? That was HIS problem that he could not catch up to the car he wanted to stop, not yours. I would have blown up completely on him and probably ended up in jail, I do suffer from road rage sometimes. If you were doing the minimum speed limit for that stretch of road, and could not get in the other lane, then his stop was unwarranted. I think that the Georgia trooper that hit Jeff's vehicle may be in some serious trouble, really ?? motorcyclist failing to yield on an Atlanta interstate? Go try and drive in Atlanta and you will understand why this is a total joke of an excuse for a speeding pursuit, especially in the downtown area. Well out of some stories come others that make you smile, thanks for the Amazon story. I know that guy was very thankful they were there.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Tres,
I think the cop pulled me over because he was furious his high speed chase failed.  He was looking to find something on me maybe to compensate? Then gets me with a clean record and it was my birthday, which I'm sure he noticed from the liscense.  I was definitely driving over the speed limit by the time he pulled me over...I would have fought a ticket on principle!

Another thing I took away from it...my music was too loud.  He sounded his siren for a second without the lights, so he said, he didn't want to tip off the guy he was after. If I heard anything, I thought it was coming from my stereo.  In my rearview mirror, he looked like a maniac trying to kiss my bumper...

Agreed, lame excuse for the Atlanta chase...so sad...

Hate to say it Angela, but if you were in Cali. it would have been an automatic ticket for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, which became law here last Jan. 1st. The cop sounded like a total douche the way he treated you though, but it sounds like a bunch of circumstances that came together in a bad way. Glad you kept your record clean.

Jdawg,
I know I sound old, but I often am amazed at how folks don't yield to flashing lights and ambulances, I've wondered if they don't teach that in driver's ed anymore, we were always taught you move over to the right, slow down, get out of the way and/or stop your car far over on the right. If this cop had his flashing lights on, he would have got his guy only 2 cars ahead of me...everyone moved out of the way when his flashers went on.

Back to baseball; How's Buster Posey? I haven't heard much about him, is he healed up and rehabbed for spring training?

Buster is throwing and hitting already getting ready to report to spring training. There's been talk of the Giants not playing him quite as much @ catcher and putting him @ 1st base occasionally where he played when he was called up before Benji went to Texas.

I think the lost art of yielding to emergency vehicles is what brought about the law here last year.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

I respect everyones opinion here. I seriously need to know what you think about the Washington Nationals NOT selling tickets to Phillie fans for a specific time period for games in their stadium!!!

My feelings may be bias, being a Phillie fan.  I honestly can't recall EVER hearing of this in the MLB and the Nationals stadium doesn't sell out, its not like the Phillie fans are taking away spots for their fans.

http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/phi … tions.html

Could it be a public relations stunt?

Is it legal? You have to have a credit card from a certain state to get these tickets.

Or does it just go along with alot of other things that don't make sense coming out of Washington, DC???  OK, that's a joke! lol

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Your last sentence is unfortunately far from a joke Angela . roll It seems like some kind of bandwagon whipping stunt to me. Shoot, when the rival clubs come to Petco, there are huge numbers of fans in the stands for the other team. The owners welcome each paying customer, trust me on that!

Is this just for Phils/Nats games or all Nats games? Doesn't make any sense, but you can always go through StubHub. I'm gettin' the itch for some baseball and as soon as the Hyper Bowl is over tomorrow it's full steam ahead. Today is the Giants Fanfest @ AT&T Park, a free event, which is a good reason to steer clear. I've been to a few when my son was younger, but it's just insanely crowded nowadays. If they charged a dollar half the people would probably stay home.
