Topic: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

The American legends are to headline the Isle of Wight festival on Friday 22 June :

http://www.planetrock.com/news/rock-new … ight-2968/

It will actually be their 2nd UK festival as they were at Knebworth in 1976. I think their last UK tour was in 1992 so let's hope some more dates are announced. I saw them perform at the Hollywood Bowl in 2008 and 2010 and the shows were just fantastic. Mike Campbell sure can play a mean lead guitar. I also remember buying their first album on the day it was released so this is big news for me.

I saw them at Knebworth - fantastic.....so is their first album....come to think of it, most of them are!!!

Re: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

There is only a coulple of their albums that are below standard and Mojo last year was blues-influenced. Crackin album.

Don't know if I can hack standing in a field with 70,000 others at the IOW though (that's if the youngsters don't disappear when he comes on stage as they did with Neil Young). Think I will hold out to see if there are any more UK gigs. Hard Rock Calling could be a possibility but that's another field with 80,000 folk.

They did a one-off show at Shepherds Bush Empire in 1999. Imagine trying to get a ticket for that if they did it again.

I thought you'd probably be going to more than one.

Re: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

There's a gap from 16 - 21 June, don't be surprised if UK dates fit in there.

would really love to go, - but once again ticket prices compounded by outrageous booking fees, - and with Pearl Jam playing I guess that they have given up their fight for reasonable prices and booking fees...?

Fingers crossed for a TP gig in London then..

You may get your wish Ian. Tom did a 90 minute live tweet with fans last night and when asked if there would be more UK shows he said "Maybe, I hope so".

Re: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Royal Albert Hall 20 June 2012. Another one for my diary. Unmissable!!!

Re: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

ALMOST worth another trip across the pond.  I doubt I would be able to get as good a seat as I did for Joe's RAH performance.  Is this the first time Tom Petty has played there?  He has been one of my favorites for a lot of years - especially live.  Have fun Kenny.

Sandy

"There's a lot of people that are in so much of a hurry to be, I guess, to be famous or that they don't want to take the time to learn to play and do all that. They'd rather just knock it down off a computer and maybe get on a game show and get famous..That's fine if that's what you want to do.
"We're more old school than that. We like creating the sounds."  - Tom Petty

Re: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Yes Sandy, first time at this prestigious venue. Last time was in 1999 at Shepherds Bush Empire to support the Echo album.

Re: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Just got Arena floor seats after an hour of presale stress. The score so far this year is :

Joe 5 Tom 3   smile

Re: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

2nd RAH show added for 18 June so its now :

Joe 5 Tom 4

Re: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Well that was seamless today - the fan club got their act together after Tuesday's fiasco. Got great seats in G Stalls. No one apart from Wooders thinking of going? Their songs are timeless.

I'm going to the 18th June show. Spud got tickets this morning.
I have to admit that I've never really heard much of them but I've been listening to the Live Anthology recently which I really like. Looking forward to it.

Re: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Good on you Murray. Spuds the man!! Plenty of time to get into their music smile
