I loved G1 and have been a subscriber since the beginning. If you have a subscription, you will continue to receive Guitar World for the remainder of it. I've never been a big fan of Guitar World.

This is very sad! G1 has been a vocal supporter of Joe. The Editor said Joe was the best of his generation out there.
I thought Guitar One was one of the more popular, successful guitar magazines out there. Anyone know why they are stopping publication?
Inside the new Guitar World issue, it states that Guitar One & Guitar World Acoustic closed shop. That both magazines were the victims of a shifting publishing landscape.
Guitar World is now supposedly a blend of Guitar World, Guitar One and Guitar World Acoustic. It is slightly longer (about 200 pages total). It claims to have taken the best columns, including soloing strategies by Tom Kolb, Talking Blues by Keith Wyatt and All That Jazz by Vic Juris. In my opinion that's not enough.
I hate to sound negative and I certainly don't want to ruffle any feathers here, but I just never cared for Guitar World. GW was geared toward male readers in my opinion. GW seems to stick to mostly metal bands (some hard rock, too which is good) and the only women they usually feature are the ones who end up scantily clad in ads not knowing the first thing about guitars. I'm sure the male readers don't mind, but as a woman who busts her a** playing guitar, (to put it nicely) I can't stand it. I cancelled GW for a reason, and I'm not exactly excited that they think this is "good news".
I do have to say that GW does usually feature some pretty decent songs and the bass lines are included (no standard notation though).
Anyway . . . Instead of getting all bent out of shape about it, I could just cancel my subscription get my refund.
one thing i dont like about those magazine is there is too much variety. They have to please everyone and make it look like they are expanding our horizons. I page through it and say "boring, boring, boring, whoh! COOL!...yeah - i know that, boring, seen that before, boring..."
WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
I love G1- the best guitar magazine out there!! I was wondering why I wasn't getting any new G1 issues- it's been a while... never really was a big fan of Guitar World- they seem to have too much in there on new metal- not my stuff... although hopefully with the new format that will change... we'll have to see...
thats too bad though- but I guess it doesn't make much sense to have two conflicting mags put out by the same company...
Sad Scott
Check out Guitarist magazine in the UK. You can subscribe from the US - $136 for the year as well as buy it on the news stand.
I must admit, I never cared for the style of US music mags - small with awful paper. We also have other guitar mags such as Guitar and Guitar Buyer which you may like to have a look at. We also have Total Guitar which I don't like as it seems to be a bit juvenile in its approach for me and also Guitar Techniques.
Some of these come with CDs with reviews of instruments, backing tracks for the tutorials and sample songs. Sometimes they have DVDs - including one in a recent Guitarist featuring Joe.
I like to read "Classic Rock" mag. which claims to be the U.K.'s fastest growing music magazine.I'm able to get it at F.Y.E around the Boston area. It's got some great articles and its printed on quality stock with lots of great pictures. It cost $10:00 but lately has been coming with a dvd or cd. A good deal if you like classic rock ...plus I saw an ad promoting Joe's U.K. tour in the classifieds a while back .....JBrules

To me, Blues Revue could/should turn into a guitar magazine for blues and blues/rock. Then we'd have something!
wow I wonder why they went under? Their tabs are way better than GW
Hi Ges, I think Guitarist is an excellent magazine, as well as Guitar Techniques. I also like Uncut...cancelled MOJO, they never would write about Joe so I cancelled. Actually, I didn't care for it that much and they ticked me off by never answering me...kidding. The editors at Guitar One were great, very fond of Joe and I joked with one of them about owing me Joe's picture on the cover, for altering my words a little in a letter to the editor. I'll have to track him down... Ges, I think it was you who told me you were a Joe Cocker fan, did you notice he's in the lineup with Joe In Italy?
Hubby has a subscription to both G1 and Guitar World, now 2 issues of Guitar World came in the mail at different times?!
