Steve Marriott FINALLY in the R&R HOF

Of course it is welcome. Steve won't give a toss of course but the recognition is deserved. Would be nice though if they turned their attention to some of the living greats that have yet to be honoured........

A speck of good news amid the doom & gloom of world news.
So,  Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame ain't all bad!

Thoroughly deserved...the Humble Pie stuff was awesome...although I do doubt the credibility of the Rock N' Roll HOF...come on, love 'em or hate 'em, how could they have turned down KISS, and inducted ABBA?? Madness....

Definitely deserved if not late. I also think Humble Pie were a great band and who would have thought Steve Marriot and Peter Frampton would have mixed so well. I used to have a double live album of theirs which was obviously too good because it was borrowed permanently by someone. Never seen a copy since...

Totally agree! Had the pleasure of seeing Steve after his Humble Pie days in a local hall - think the band were Steve Marriots Pack Of Three - if my memory serves me right! A fantastic, underrated singer!

Indeed it was Pack of Three - played to a small crowd in Aberdeen. I wish Humble Pie hadnt played the UK so seldom.

Glad you liked it. That moment when he opens his voice and THAT voice comes out - just magic. His Dad and mine were mates and I got to meet him. In a way it was a shame to see him, as Kenny notes, playing in effectively what was a pub band late in his career (good as they were).

He was a local lad which why why his songs about Beckton Dumps and others resonant with me. 'Tis said that 'Itchygoo Park' by the Small Faces was based on this little park in Beckton/Woolwich he frequented.

My favourite memory is Humble Pie (Clem Clempson on guitar) playing the bingo hall in Barking Road on a Saturday evening after the home West Ham match (which we won). Was a great concert from a local lad made real good.

Even in his solo outings he was, when on his game, a real force. Bottle of Courvoisier on standby on the Hammond and he could really play guitar. Not in Framptons class obviously, but good y'know.

But that voice. When I hear him "I don't need no doctor!", I feel better already!

What a daft bugger he was.

By the way Curby, you get DVDs of the Old Grey Whistle Test series. There are some fantastic clips on there. Skynyrd in the studio are awesome. Nils Lofgren, Wishbone Ash, Rory......you name it, and old 'Whispering Bob Harris' doing the honours.
