Topic: Dust Bowl and Bakersfield, California

Just for the record...

The "Dust Bowl", made famous by Steinbeck's "Grapes of Wrath" has major significance to Bakersfield, California.  The Bakersfield area (Lamont/Weedpatch/Sunset Labor Camp) was where the "Okies" landed after leaving Oklahoma.  Many descendants of these families, including me, remain here today.  Congratulations Joe on sharing this with the world.

Tomorrow night (12/8/2011) Joe will be performing here in Bakersfield, California.  I'll be there...representing the "Okie" spirit!!!  Wouldn't it be cool if Joe got the word on the irony of "Dust Bowl" and his Bakersfield performance!!!  Pass it on if you get the chance.

Re: Dust Bowl and Bakersfield, California

Thanks for the history lesson Harley, and welcome to the forum. I'm pretty sure that Joe does not know of this coinkidink, but he might read this before the concert. Good having you join in, post often and please do give us your take on the show. If this is your first Joe show then you are in for a real treat.

Re: Dust Bowl and Bakersfield, California

I'm sorry to get off topic Harley, this is about your intro and the concert.  but this is too funny Rick, just the visual of Joe with his ipod and earphones humming along and tapping his feet with Buck, "I've got a tiger by the tail it's plain to see........". I kid you not, he could do a kicked up version of that song and do it justice. lol

I do realize that he may have been kidding us a little, but he does listen to a lot of different stuff.

YIKES, hell yes I love that sound being from down south. You were up close and center for that one Rick. Harley, you play a little git yourself? Ya'll have a great time tonight, I'm thinking Joe may amend WUD and insert some country style pickin that will bring the audience to their feet, or knees as the case may be.

Re: Dust Bowl and Bakersfield, California

Simply amazing performance!!!!!  Joe and the guys tore the place down!!!  And as a finale, Joe broke out the Tele and sang a tribute to Bakersfield's own, the late Buck Owens.

Thanks Joe for sharing your talent and energy with us small town folks!!!
