Our Aztecs exceeded expectations with a gritty comeback win in overtime over a very good Long Beach team who had just dispatched Pitt decisively on the road. Another win and they might make the national rankings. 5-1 now.

that is a real nice win Rick, they should be ranked. Did the kid Ware for LBS not have a good game? Well we got out of Puerto Rico with the tourney win, Purdue was not as good as I expected. Watched the Michigan-Memphis game yesterday since I was sick, Memphis was obviously overranked and everybody will move up again since they were #8. I would not want to play Michigan right now, they looked really good and can stroke it from the 3 line for sure. Bama goes back to the early season schedule on Thurs with the Florida A&M Rattlers, should be an easy one.

Tres

They won it with the depth on the bench and on the boards at both ends. I listened to it old style on AM radio play by play out where we were camping.  Ware was a beast and pretty much unstoppable for LB but the rest couldn't hang with the defense the Aztecs put up. LB should take thier conference easily. Next up another stern test. Arizona!

Re: NCAA Basketball

It seems like its been forever, but my Hoosiers are finally looking like a competitive team.  Will find out where they're at in the next couple of weeks after N.C. St., Notre Dame, Butler and Kentucky.  Kentucky and UConn are the two best teams I've seen so far and Alabama looked impressive last week.

Re: NCAA Basketball

sight unseen Liz, rest assured it will be a good lineup on both sides. Did either one have any "bad" players that made it to the NBA? lol And what a timely post, looks like we have an NBA season after all. roll The players finally accept a 49-51 % cut of revenue, who cares? I've actually enjoyed watching the early season hockey games. Two games I think that have greatly benefitted from HDTV are golf and hockey. Hey ma, I can see the puck and keep up with it, sort of. Enough off topic, Bama gets VCU on Mon night, out of conference gets tougher with Georgetown end of next week I believe.

The 6-0 Rebels take on the #1 ranked team in the nation tonight. I would be great to see the Rebels beat Tarheels and rocket up the rankings. I would love to attend or watch the game on TV. It's going to be good.

Go Rebels!

I checked the local tube listings and the LV tourney is on Bill. I'll be watching and pulling for the upset by the RR's. We need some conference team coverage nationally. I saw the 6-1 Aztec's killing the UAz. home streak and the coverage featured the inbound jam by Ariz. on a meaningless last play.  roll

edit: Raining treys on the Tarheels! Very nice win Bill. The Running Rebels finally shut up the apologist east coast announcers who give grudging respect at the end. MWC not such a nice place to come to now.  big_smile Aztecs gut one out in OT on the road again. There should be a couple of rated teams out west soon.

No, I would have loved to gone to the game. The games I have been to were outstanding. I knew the Rebels would do well tonight. I am so happy so this team. I can't wait to see the rankings next week.

Take care,
Bill

Re: NCAA Basketball

Way to go UNLV, my son said he meant to tell me last night. sad  I was unaware they had pulled it off. Yes, a great win and new rankings coming, both UNLV and SDSU should be top twenty.

Re: NCAA Basketball

well, UNLV made it in at #18 or 19, seems about right. SDSU will need to continue to impress. VCU was a tough matchup for the Tide last night, Bama was down one at the half but came back and took control in the end. You will remember this VCU coach, Shaka Smart had them running on all cylinders in the March tourney last year.
There are a couple of good games tonight at 7:00 EST, #10 Xavier at #16 Vandy(-3 1/2), and Long Beach State at Louisville(-9 1/2).

Re: NCAA Basketball

Hard to believe, but with SEC expansion the IU/UK rivalry may end.  Faced with ending either the Hoosiers, Louisville, or Carolina, Kentucky fans picked IU as the odd man out.  The overall series is 22-30 on favor of the Cats, but IU will be a formidable team the rest of this decade with two number 1 recruiting classes ('12 & '14).
Hopefully this won't happen as this has always been a great rivalry.  When I was at IU we only lost to them once, but it was a big one (92-90 against maybe Indiana's best team).  That was the unbeaten '75 playing without their top player in Scott May.  I named my son after their All-American point guard, Quinn Buckner.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Rebels win in double OT and still undefeated. Wow! what a close game.

Ricks Aztecs had a great game going but lost a close one in OT tonight.

That UCSB team is tough! Aztecs again let a 17 pt lead wane away. They aren't as good as last year's team and lined up a bunch of super good teams early. Creighton showed why they are ranked and still undefeated. (it didn't go to ot) Time will tell...

nice win Bill, I saw that final and breathed a sigh of relief for you. Sorry to see SDSU go down Rick. I think they were up by like 10 end of the first half, but 17 really hurts. You're right, Creighton is very good, that would have been a quality upset. We get Georgetown tonight, at Tuscaloosa I believe, and it's on the tube. This may be our first true test even though VCU gave us fits, however we are at our best on the home court. It will be funny to see how many people are there with the late start, it's at 8:30 CST.

yes, ESPN or ESPN-2 at 6:30 your time, assuming it's not a regional coverage thing.

Great game, tough one to lose Tres There is nothing between those two teams. It was on here and I watched it. Down to the last possession and a great shot. That half court prayer that clanked off the rim had your heart beating I bet.
