Topic: Joe back to wired

I've noticed in recent photos and youtubes that it looks like Joe is back to plugging in and not using the wireless any more. I wonder what went in to that decision and if he had a problem?

I did find it a bit out of character that someone who is such a tone hound, and always looking for that extra bit would switch to wireless...  hmm

Re: Joe back to wired

He was plugging in when I saw him last October FWIW.

One of the main things to remember is...guitarist generally go through many phases! God knows I'm terrible for it! haha
He's maybe just decided against it cause he feels it was dropping tone. Or maybe it's something to do with this new rig (tone wise)

Re: Joe back to wired

I was somewhat intrigued by this thread so checked out some Utube vids.  The one below could be revealing - it shows Joe starting his HK set with a lead using his 59 LP (I think).  Now then - look at his mic stand - it looks to me like that's his radio system set draped over the stand.

So perhaps he uses it when he's finished with the LP for some reason (old guitar works better with lead???) or he had some problems with the radio set on sound check (interference perhaps?) and decided to ditch it in favour of the lead?  Who knows?!?

I'd like to know the reason for sure, but there's only one guy that might give us the low-down if he cares to - over to you Joe!

Well first thing I noticed in that video was the stripped down rig. Perhaps a fly in date? Maybe using a cable in was just easier with a rented rig?

Wish I could start my job every day walking through smoke clouds like that!

I've noticed too, sometimes cable..sometimes not.  Could be a variety of reasons from mood, unwanted noise, better sound..who knows.  Even standing in a small spot to play all night, having a wireless is nice.  Its probably hard to adjust back to a cable dangling from your guitar.

Yeah, probably. His wireless is in rack so when he rents rig it's easier to plug a cable smile

Re: Joe back to wired

Well, the cable company 'Klotz' now have a signature cable out for Joe at the moment, so I'm assuming it might be related to this? I bought one yesterday - bloomin' fantastic!

Re: Joe back to wired

Couple of reasons.... I feel that the Beyer Wireless is the best out there bar none...  I had a failure on the first song of the first night in the USA and went to cable again..  I noticed that the articulation and the way the guitar responds with the volume down is way better..  Latency is the word.   The rig is also quieter and more immediate.   So I went back to cable..  My tech Mike is genius at the cable run and I very rarely get tangled up...

Joe, fantastic show in Birmingam last night! I noticed that there was less hiss (compared to Nashvilke last year) during the quiet passages...really allowed the subtleties of you guitars to come through. Loved seeing you give the Bursts a workout. I can tell that you have a particularly special bond with Magellan....you play that one like it is literally a part of you. I'm also wondering if Don is going to need a new guitar!

Thanks for the note Joe - I guessed almost right then.  Interesting to read your thoughts and I think many axe players here will have wondered at your use of wireless when some of us had got it drummed into us that cable is best.  I have a Nady wireless set, which to be fair is not bad atall, but it never comes out my gear case.  All the best.

Re: Joe back to wired

I think the cable over the mic stand might be for his acoustic?  Maybe its linked directly to the sound board.

He uses that cable for his acoustic.
