Re: So I did one myself...

Well Joe, that was an education! Luckily, my roomie, the guitar player, is home, so he told me about a few unknown names.  Others were new to both of us. I am another Zappa girl, so he's always on my list. Thanks for remembering Lowell George. I know many others I love, but couldn't name as top 50 yet. As for the top, it's Joe Bonamassa..and that's not smoke up....  Cathy

"technical skill, influence, writing and overall career to this point" as well as variety and are the main criteria, but somehow RS are so out of date in all genres, aren't they meant to have their finger on the pulse and also have the knowledge of geniuses from 1900 onwards.
Even with 100 though we all leave out some names and on this thread they still keep coming, where you say "Yeah" he's good enough to make any Top 100.

Re: So I did one myself...

After thinkin' on this some more I wasn't surprised that Steve Miller's name doesn't show up anywhere as well as KWS and Jonny Lang , Steve never gets any love. A real talent that also was nowhere to be found is Bill Frisell, he didn't even make the truefire blog. How about Tommy Bolin, Les Dudek, or Tom Johnston of the Doobie Bros.???? Joe listed Bruce Conte from Tower of Power which certainly deserves mentioning Jeff Tamelier who replaced Bruce for 10 years with his big "Funk Chunk" style. the TOP guys were very dismayed when Jeff left to focus on his family and studio/production projects.

I didn't actually work my way through their entire list.  hmm

At least Bonnie being there is a small plus. Was she the only woman?

She came in @ #89 and Joni Mitchell was #75. Lou Reed was #81....you make the call on that one.

Re: So I did one myself...

That's a lot of names.  From what I can see there are some jazz greats there (Wes Montgomery, Larry Carleton).  Aside from the jazz greats there are quite a few others I recognize from "back in the day."  It appears that you are what a lot of us "baby boomers" call an "old soul" in a young body.  I think you have been "here" before in another life...and that's a good thing, son. cool

Hard not to agree with that statement.  Glad to see cats like Roy Clark on your list.  I'd probably displace a few folks with names like Tommy Emmanuel, Chet Atkins, Angus Young, Pepe Romero...  and (not just saying this because I'm a fan)...I think you have a spot on that list.

Great show last night in Clearwater by the way.  I hope you enjoy the wine, the red bull, and the bottle my daughter decorated for you (I'll post a few pictures of her hard at work on it in another thread)!  Thank you for autographing my guitar and the "beauty of the burst" book.  Really made it a great 15 year anniversary.

Re: So I did one myself...

It's good to see Ronnie Montrose and Joe Walsh on your list!

I'd also add Steve Morse, Vinnie Moore, Andy Timmons, David Gilmour, Mato Nanji, Brian May, Gary Hoey (who I mentioned before), and OF COURSE SMOKIN' JOE!!!
