Topic: Baffles Do Work

Finally got round to building a baffle and wondered why I hadn't bothered before. It calms the highs right down and smooths everything out. I magaeged to get some free plexi glass so a piano hinge and some drillign and bolting and it's done!

Why has this taken me so long. All those who are pondering this, don't delay - Single biggest improvement to my tone since I bought my PRS DGT and marshall jubilee and EVM12 and DD3 and fulltone fulldrive, line 6 M5, oh the list goes on!

I agree, they work very well for their intended purpose.  Thicker plexi is the way to go, but the thin stuff isn't bad.  Way to go scoring some free materials, that stuff can be expensive!

Only misconception I think a few people have is, they think they can dime their amp and the shield will block all of the sound and in reality it doesn't!  You're right in saying it mellows out the initial volume shock and high end of being in front of a loud amp, plus they're good to keep some unwanted noise bleeding into your microphones.

If you don't have one, you can always turn your amp backwards facing into a corner, it will have a similar effect.

I've got this couple with a marshall power brke. I can now push my black 89 jubilee as hard as i like at home now, the power brake and baffle work great together. I took the baffle away yesterday and I was like "what's happened to my tone". Baffle is a keeper. The plexi glass was free, £6 for piano hinge and bolts. Best £6 I've spent.

I just built my own too - about £30 all in, but I used clear duct tape for the join.  I was skeptical of the benefits to a player not performing at larger venues, but I have to say I echo all the thoughts of Fuzzblues in that there is a clear tonal difference.  That's actually not too surprising really - the key is whether you LIKE taking out the higher frequencies as well as reducing the 'beam of death'!  I am reserving a final judgement until after I gig this weekend for the 1st time with the baffle in place - will report back.  neutral

I've mentioned in several previous threads that I prefer the sound of my rig (Ceriatone Trainwreck Express & Jetcity JCA20H with a custom 2x12 loaded with 12" 300W Faital lightwight alnico PA speakers) at home, practice or gig with the baffles in place

This has always lead responses as to what is better about it that I've always avoided answering. However without doubt it just simply sounds better  cool
