If dowtown, south of Broadway 4th avenue and 5th at "F" Street (it's the actual street name) the Hard Rock Cafe, Patrick's II, Croce's (named after Jim Croce, owned by his wife and his son A. J. plays there a lot-Fuzzy Rankin plays there Thursday) are all within walking ditance of each other. They are all by Horton Plaza shopping mall (see it even if you don't buy anything)-years ago the Hare Krishna's used to perform outside by the fountain until people got tired of them, the panhandlers, and end-of-the world sidewalk preachers and built the mall. Up north of Broadway is the House of Blues (1055 Fifth-oh yeah Street numbers are spelled out as in "Fifth", not usually labeled as "5th", etc.), and Tyrone Wells plays there Friday...San Juan Capistrano (where the swallows return at the Mission every year the day after St. Patrick's Day) has Johnny Winter Thursday & Gary Hoey Friday at the Coach House (Joe played there this last November) 33157 Camino Capistrano, San Juan Capistrano CA, 92675. Tickets & Dinner Reservations (949) 496-8930 (get good directions). Don't think the Belly Up has blues this week, but Solana Beach is one of the best beaches in San Diego if you want to be less crowded...Check the San Diego Reader (free at 7-11's and everywhere Thursdays-local music stuff galore...Guitar Center 8825 Murray Dr., La Mesa (one in San Marcos too), Guitar Trader is cool-7120 Clairemont Mesa Blvd, check it out if you can... Peter D's 5149 Clairemont Mesa Blvd. has a jam Thurday's at 8 if you can sneak/talk your way in, just watch out for drunks...You already know about Jonny Lang at Humphrey's on Saturday...(it's outdoors btw)-drive/walk to the end of Shelter Island and see the Friendship Bell from Yokohama, Japan (San Diego is it's sister city)...
