Topic: Bought a Two-Rock, now which Marshall ?

I'm looking for an amp to pair with my Two-rock (custom reverb sig v3).

I'm looking at a Metro 100w Plexi (with master volume and FX loop) to pair with the TR.

Would that give me a similar sound to Joe's Jubilee ?

Along with Joe's tone, I'd use the plexi for some EJ tones as well (with the needed effects), which I don't think a Jubilee is as good for.

I'm thinking of going with a plexi instead of a Jubilee for the extra versatilty basically.

Would they pair well ?

You might want to take a look at some of the Category 5 amps. I have never played one but Mr. Bonamassa likes them.  I believe they offer some of the options you are looking for.

Hi Sometimes Silver Jubs show up on ebay. But I suggest contacting Catagory 5 they have a new Joe B signiture Silver Jub model that is killer (not on there Web site yet but contact Don Ritter). I have one and I also have a silver Jubilee. I tested them side by side and it is my opion thast the Catgory 5 tone is better the the silver jubilee. It also has more tonal options then s silver jub. The Catagory 5 JB SIlver Jub can give you the classic Marshall silver jub tones with more offerings exspecially on the ryth channel.

I dont think they would give the sound you are after if you like Joes sound then it has to be a Jubilee as they sound (as CT said ) unique .
However if you want a versatile rig then the two rock and metro would
give some great tones . the Category  5 I am sure will be a killer amp
if you budget  covers it

Actually Joe received his Catagory 5 Joe B Jub the day of the show in Boston on Nov 3rd. I would not be surprised if you see it in his rig in a few weeks.

The cat 5 jubilee looks nice.

this is a very hard decision for me to make.

I basically have to choose between the EJ tone (along with the tones my TR provide), or the Bonamassa tone (TR paired with the Jubilee).

Going the JB route, getting a clean (really clean) tone might be hard to switch because i need to kick off the ABY switch and the TR footswitch. The TR doesn't clean up enough to roll the volume down for cleans.

His tone is very full and rich though...

On the other hand, EJ's lead tone is great as well...

Dude...

How is this a hard decision???  Sound similar to Joe B or Eric J... in all honesty no one is going to be able to tell the difference due to the fact you probably dont play like either of them. Not saying you are a bad player... but in all honesty no one plays like anyone else so you might as well just get in the ball park and have fun.

I guess my point is that I love Vox's and Fenders... So insted of trying to sound like Joe or Warren Haynes or Derek Trucks... All my hero's... I bought a HW Vox AC15 and a Fender Vibrolux.  Both are great amps by them selves and they sound really good together.

So now I have my own pair of amps that sound really good and take bits and pieces of my hero's and put them together.

Your trying to sound like Joe and he doesnt play two rocks anymore.  So already you are playing a different dumblish amp.

I'd find a marshall type amp that you like alot and if you love it alone then I am sure it will sound great with a two rock beside it. 

Cat 5 are great amps, 65 amps are really awsome amps, Xits amps are amazing and probably my favorite amp ever made, 3 Monkey amps are really good... all would sound great with a two rock.

If you have the money, I'd say experiment, and buy & sell used until you find something


My search is for this:
one amp that can do everything
or
two amps worth carrying around gig to gig 'for the tone'
or
keeping the amp that i've been using for 11 years and staying content

What a choice to have... a Cat 5 Jubilee, Cat 5 Plexi or a Metro Plexi.

I know i personally like amps that do one thing extremely well without much fuss, as opposed to amps that do a bunch of things pretty well, or do a few things extremely well but are challenging to dial in. For this reason, personally, i might start with a Metro 12000 Plexi if i had to choose, though i suspect the Cat 5 Jubilee does a bunch of stuff extremely well without much fuss. The amp is only half the instrument though, depends on your guitar of choice and what/how you like to play too....

Of course i have no idea what I'm talking about, just would like to have to choose  smile
