Re: Coco Montoya

Coco had far more UK dates than that arranged for February, he was due to play the Ferry in Glasgow, the Brook in Southampton and more. I guess ticket sales were a disappointment.

I'm guessing you are right - this is Coco's second cancellation in the last year. However, I can well remember Joe's first gig at the Ferry - and the gigs since have been a sell out!

Re: Coco Montoya

Got into Montoya's music a few months ago. Sadly no places near where I live hmm Guess I'll have to miss out on this one.

Re: Coco Montoya

I saw Coco last night as a part of Blues Caravan. I think he´s now off for England. Go and see him, he´s a great guitar player!!
I was telling him that he should come more often to Europe/Germany and he said that he intends to do so - now as he´s with a german record label (Ruf).

Not bad for a guy who started out as a drummer, then learned to play from the "Iceman" Albert Collins. Got my eye on that June 5th date as he'll be playing with Robert Cray, Charlie Musselwhite, Laurie Morvan, & Shane Dwight in the Gold Country.

Where's that at? I've seen Shane Dwight before and had a good time at his show.

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

That was the 2010 line up @ Coloma Blues Live right up the road from you Guido. It's held @ Henningsen Park on the river near Lotus. I went in '09 and saw Curtis Salgado, Albert Cummings, Tommy Castro, & Los Lobos. Google Coloma Blues Live for info.

Wow - that's a real shame...living in Southampton that would have been a must see gig for me.  My band play one of Coco's tracks live - "Get Your Business Straight" - and it's a very popular song indeed.

Re: Coco Montoya

Coco delivered a great 2+ hour set last night at the Coach House. He's one  of those performers that isn't flashy, or incredibly gifted. He just lays down a superbly enjoyable performance with his great voice and band playing a nice selection of soul and blues songs and covers.

Last night he and the band were having a lot of fun. Relaxed and joking with the crowd, offering anecdotes and serving up great music. The playing and tone he delivered on his upside down Strat was impeccable with even extensive violining on one piece and a great use of delay that sounded just like his organist on another.  Affordable too; a bit over $100 got the two of us in with dinner, drinks and two support bands as well. One very good and the other so-so. Not bad for a full evening out on the town.

I have a vid or two that may be passable, though I was partially obstructed and had some equipment issues. I'll post a link later when I have time. If he comes near, go see his band. You will be glad you did!

Re: Coco Montoya

I like that fat joker.  I have seen him phone it in.  I've seen him remove the heads of any doubters.  I have always thought he would benefit greatly from better material...just a gut feeling.  Chuck Negron used to say that.  The songs have to be good.  Joe says it now.

Coco can sure sing.  I really didn't know of his guitar skills untill the early 90s when I heard a live John Mayall /Bluesbreakers song called "Thinking 'Bout My Baby."  He played a solo in the middle of that which was blistering slow blues at its best.

I knew he was with the Iceman, like Debbie Davies and learned some things there about not only playing guitar, but BIGOTRY across these states.  His stories are somewhat painful.
