Topic: Cranked Fender Twin

I had never heard a fully cranked Fender Twin. A little over a week ago I saw Junior Brown at the Bluebird in Bloomington, Indiana.  If you have never seen Junior, check him out.  He goes from Merle Travis to Hendrix to surf music effortlessly on his guit-steel (combination tele-bronco with a steel guitar.)  Anyway he played a Fender Twin with nothing but a volume pedal and a lot of reverb.  His Twin was hitting on all cylinders.  When he dimed his volume pedal you could almost see his amp grow in size.  The tone was huge and had a killer power tube drive going.  Unfortunately, I was two rows back and I took most of it point blank.  But man it sounded good.  He was up and down with his volume so often that it was not near as punishing as it could have been.  That kind of tone is glorious when you listen to a player that knows how to control it and use it dynamically.

That Junior Brown? lol

This guy is awesome though, very catchy

Re: Cranked Fender Twin

Yeah thats him!  He's got a twin reverb, not the tweed twin so its like a 80 to 100 watts comparied to the tweeds 40 watts so if it was cranked then yeah you were hurting!

Re: Cranked Fender Twin

I've seen Junior Brown twice now. He looks like a cowboy, but he plays some CRAZY blues and surf... LOVE love LOVE his stuff...

Back in the day, he was in a Gap clothing Commercial, Kenny Wayne Shepherd was in the same series of Gap commercials.  hmm

If you've ever listened to Ted Nugent you have.

Re: Cranked Fender Twin

Wharris, you nailed me on that one. And I was a big Nugent fan back in the mid to late 70's. But, I saw Ted in arenas and stadiums.  I saw Junior Brown in a small club. I really enjoyed watching him use his volume pedal and switch back and forth between his guitar and steel. He had some magic going with his simple set up.

Re: Cranked Fender Twin

I've never seen Junior live but I would go in a second. I get a kick out of this guy

Saw Eric Johnson this summer. Thankfully, he had some baffles up in front of his BF Twins. Even though they are set for cleans, they are LOUD.

Re: Cranked Fender Twin

I've seen Junior Brown twice live - once opening for Jimmie Vaughan at H.O.B. and the other was front row, center at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago.  Both are among the best concerts I've ever seen.  It's just so rare to go to a show and have a big old grin on your face from start to finish.  He's awesome.
