Re: Joe's signature Category 5 amplifiers

I had to inquire and find out if they would build me one that can get that tone in a grab and go 20 watt package with trem.  Love that plexi sound...that and the early tweed deluxe and blackface deluxe are my all time fav's.

Hi Oasis
Catagory 5 makes great gear. Contact Don Ritter I have purchased a few amps from him. Tell him Ron from Pelham N.H. told you to contact him. Also not shown on the Catagory web site is a new Joe Bonamassa signiture model. It is a Cat5 Joe Bonamassa Silver Jubilee type head. I real killer I am fotunate enough to own the 100w head and Don is building me a 50w combo model. From what I understand we will start to see Joe using the new Jub from Cat 5 sometime during his current US tour. I suspect sometime around the texas gigs since Cat 5 is located there. I also have the Joe B signiture 68 plexi as shown on the web site. If you want that marshall silver Jub sound but want a new head or simply can not find a Silver Jub because many do not want to part with them I would check out the above Joe B Silver Jub by Catagory 5.
Cheers Ron

Re: Joe's signature Category 5 amplifiers

Pricing starts at $3250??? for Joe's Jub clone?

You can get a real Jub for that. hmm

Plus you can get the Ceriatone for 1/3 of that price.

Does this Cat 5 smoke the original AND the Ceriatone? Just looking for a value explanation here. I know hand-wiring labor gets expensive.

Ask me about my handwound Great Lakes Guitar Pickups
Since 2010, Bonamassa fans have taken advantage of my JB friend discount = my cost + shipping. cool

Hi NPB
As with most things it beauty is in the eye of the beholder in this case the ear. From what I have seen there are not any Jubilees out there to buy. Everyone is holding on to them. I have two Marshall silver Jub ( about $2800 each used) when I tested the Catagory 5 Joe B Jub side by side with the Marshall Silver Jub for me it sounded better to my ears. It was more response, articulate and more importantly had more tone possibilities. What I mean is not only was the overdrive channel more responsive but the ryh channel had more tonely adjustment with the addition of the saturation and level controls for that channel. I do not know how it compares to a Ceritone. I have never tried one. Are they the one's that you buy as a kit? Perhaps that's why there cheaper. Again like guitars it is really up to the user. So for me the new Catagory 5 from my vantage point and listining experience is better than the original Silver Jub. Since Joe will be receiving one in a few weeks for his tour hopefully he will chime in? I know he already mentioned that when he tried out the proto type he told Don that he was the first to come close to the silver jub sound.
Cheers Ron

Re: Joe's signature Category 5 amplifiers

I saw a Jubilee about two years ago at Marksguitarloft for $1200

I waited one day and it was gone.
I think it was a forum member who got it, soo lucky..

If you see one and the price is good don't wait a second.

Re: Joe's signature Category 5 amplifiers

A SJ can be had for about 1800. Now, this is one of the reasons why I generally don't like signature gear;  there seems to be a giant price inflation when a popular name goes on the item.  Now, if people can afford it, want the gear, and can justify owning it, more power to them.  I don't do signature gear, unless of course it would be macg1 signature gear!  cool

Amp: Firebird Musical Amplifiers
Guitars:62 LP SG , 02 FB VII, JB FB I, 76 Electra Omega, 64 Firebird V, 73 LPC, 61 Custom Tele, 59 and 60 Melody Maker
Effects: Mythos Chupacabra, Strymon Deco/Flint

Re: Joe's signature Category 5 amplifiers

Theres a Jub half stack at Fatsound guitars now. Heard it Friday. They really get the magic at ear bleed levels, not great lower volume amps.

Re: Joe's signature Category 5 amplifiers

Wow, I'd love to hear your rig!! big_smile
